  • Unit support cost

From the screenshot, it looks like every military unit will require 1 gold upkeep no matter what type of unit they are.
This is so stupid, I cannot believe this ****.
Can you imagine a nuclear carrier costing same amount of upkeep as a ancient warrior unit?

I can't load the avault page, but if what are you saying is true, this is stupid.
Even units in the same age and type can't have the same upkeep cost. Imagine a stealth bomber compared to a normal jet upkeep cost.
    This doesn't make any sense...

I don't think that have a wonder that make so dramatic cut in the upkeep costs...
There are ones that reduce, but not almost eliminate the costs.

oh, there is something wrong with the url. on that screen, it show the civ has like 143 unites, allowed unit is 90, so the civ pays 53 gold per turn in unit upkeeep. On the screen, a vareity of units are shown. This includes infantry, tanks, and bombers.

What wonder would do that? The "Pact with the Devil" wonder? I guess I'll build that one next to the "Magic Bullet" wonder. One shot from an outdated rifle and you kill the president and wound the governor of Texas and the slug looks like it was never fired.

It has been confirmed that each unit costs 1 to support. Under Republic and Democracy you don't get any units for free, so every unit costs 1. Under Monarchy and Communism, you get 2 units for free per town, 4 per city, and 8 per metropolis. I believe cities are called towns when below aqueduct size, cities when between aqueduct and hospital size, and metropolises when above hospital size.

The alternative to 1gold per unit doesn't bear thinking about (unless Fort Knox is your treasury). Besides, you won't have any warriors to pay for when you have carriers.

oh, this is stupid. do you think a carrier would cost more to maintain than a, let say Jet Fighter, letting alone the stupid warrior from 4000 BC that is as expensive to maintain as the new carrier.

I don't disagree, but this is probably a case where gameplay won out over realism.

I hope so. I really want a fun game more then a realistic game, but I hope the idea of scaled support costs was at least playtested before it was scrapped.

making the upkeep cost for all units the same doesn't add anything to the gameplay.

With the rules about how many free units each size city can support, it would very difficult for units to have different support costs. How would you decide which units are covered by the free allowed units, and which you have to pay for?
