I never understanded why you can play Americans. The Americans only exist out of italians, spanish, dutch and english etc. So why would it be a starting civ. They where founded after war with England a couple of hundred years ago. So why would you insert Americans as a civ.

The different nationalities were decided from their impact on the world.
1)America has made the biggest impact out of any nation in the 20th century by a large margin.
2)America is where Civ3 will sell the greatest. 'nuff saidI don't do drugs anymore 'cause i find i can get the same effect by standing up really fast.
I live in my own little world, but its ok; they know me here.

Dynasties.
Where in time is irrelevent. Americas history is short but surely as notable as just about any other.
To think because a civ is older, its greater, is flawed thinking.I see the world through bloodshot eyes
Streets filled with blood from distant lies.

Selection of the "Americans," "British," French, and Germans are all based on the massive sales generated in those countries. The selection of the Japanese may be the same. Age, impact, qualifications in terms of civilized contributions, these are ultimately all secondary to the number of buyers who might not do so if their civ isn't there. All four of the states named in the first sentence are derivatives of other societies. None extend back to B.C.E. Enough said. You don't have to include them when you play.No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai

If you dont understand then you are obviously blinded by ignorance.
I would like to request that this Thread including all like it be deleted. It is highly ofensive. Especially considering the cowardly acts of September 11th.Last edited by Draco aka Se7eN; October 22, 2001, 17:30."Its a great day for Hockey"

America should be in civilization, because it is a seperate and powerful civilization. But still, you have to wonder about the mentaility of people who think they can wave the banner of patriotism and expect to get pity. It would be evil to appease his request, stopping the flow of opinon because it might say something which is not pro-American. Censorship (which is anti-American to begin with) is the abomination of a monster that his reared his ugly head here.
Pathetic.

It wasn't out of line...
Executioner:
Why do you find my suggesting that censorship of a post about whether a civilization should or should not be in a video game out of respect to the kamikaze attack on September 11th in poor taste? I'm simply stating that it's silly not to have this conversation just because of recent events. Much less the suggestion that the entire thread should be deleted out of "respect".

Very very nice point. The eagle soars and flies in peace and casts its shadow wide Across the land, across the seas, across the far-flung skies. The foolish think the eagle weak, and easy to bring to heel. The eagle's wings are silken, but its claws are made of steel. So be warned, you would-be hunters, attack it and you die, For the eagle stands for freedom, and that will always fly.
