  • Going to war over culture

If I am absorbing your bases like some kind of super-cultural-leech, will you be willing to kick my @$$ because of it?

I was just musing over the portents of the whole cultural system when I started to think, "Geez, after I take one of my neighbor's cities, I could try getting THAT city's culture rating up, and keep this going all the way to his capitol!".

What a grounds for war, eh?

I look at this like the people in AoK who wouldn't attack the enemy for 2 hours and then complained "Hey, how did that guy get so much stuff!?"

I figure if you are letting the enemy build up so much 'culture' unhindered, you deserve to lose. Then again, as regards the AI...*sigh*

I wonder if the editor will allow us to turn down cultural conquests so as to minimize this in case of stupid AI ...

The again, under the culture rules, I keep expecting Toronto to take over Chicago in real life. Or New York to take Montreal.

The difference in culture between two neighboring nation's cities makes a difference too. I don't suppose that Toronto or Chicago could take over each other culturally since they are pretty close to equal in that respect; Montreal and New York too.

Hmm, this is going to be fun stuff!

Aside from Deep Dish pizza, what the hell is cultural in Chicago?

From what i understand, when you "absorb" another city via an influential culture, all the "culture generating" improvements either. . a) don't produce culture at all, you have to build new ones of your own or b) go back to the minimum culture that they can produce (ie, as if they were just built) i can't recal which, but EITHER of these should seriously hinder this kind of "cultural conquest" it would seem.

Frankly, this thing from Chicago would make any of my cities convert in an instant:

I think what Anunikoba was saying in his first post is that this concept has interesting real-world implications:

"We must attack them to prevent them from creating cultural achievements that might threaten our paradigms." Hey, wait, now I understand why the US are so warlike.

I think if you take over a city that belongs to a civilization who's culture is greatly more developed than yours, you'd have no choice but to raze it to the ground because if you tried to keep it, the city would constantly be in revolt, and it probably wouldn't stay in your empire.
Of the Holy Roman Empire, this was once said:
"It is neither holy or roman, nor is it an empire."
