  • Fanaticalism/Fanatics = Terrorism

I am not talking about the bright and shiny red men from civ2. I am talking about modern fanaticals like the ones we have all seen in the past month...*cough*-Bin Laden-*cough*

I am not trying to start a discussion on Bin Laden, I am not leading into that. But seriously, is anything like this portrayed in civ3? to put it to the bottom line...is terrorism in civ3?

I realize it may not be the best of discussions right now, but I think it would be a great addition to civ3, if implemented right. And if it already is, I'm even more excited for the game!

would it be possible if during a war, you piss of this other civ so bad, they are willing do to anything to get at you? I'm not suggesting crashing planes into buildings...but stuff like completely destroying a decisive trade route you use, or destroying a great wonder you built or a landmark, or simply pillaging your smaller, outer cities just to piss you off. If this was possible in civ3, naturally the stakes would be extremely high, and there would be a very low chance of it actually happening.

    whats everyones thoughts?
One Ring to rule them all,
    One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all,
And in the darkness bind them.

I am sure that 'terrosim' is in CivIII in the form of the Espionage feature. I don't know a lot of details about this, but all forms of sabotage, I think, will be relegated through this screen (for a price in Gold).

As far as trade routes- you should be able to stop them by simply destroying the roads or facilities that are used in transacting the trade.

I personally wouldn't classify that as terrorism though, but an outright act of war.

          But that's me

There's NO official info on this, to my knowledge, but we have spectulated that the privateer will be a unit you can control without any of the other civs knowing that it is your unit.

Terrorist activites, such as blowing up improvements, poisoning wells, and the ever-popular briefcase nuke were all in Civ II. Every reason to suspect that similar options will be in Civ III.

I've seen at least one screenshot where one city is building a privateer unit, so I'm pretty sure they're in!

Specific improvements can indeed be targeted using 'smart' weapons.

On the terrorism issue, the kind of terrorism that you all suddenly want now that it has happened in America is premature.
The game WILL NOT include sensitive material that could upset potential buyers and give anti-games lobbyists a real field day.
In short, including terrorist ideas like 'fanatics' or 'terrosts' as units would not be profitable to Firaxis>

I personally think it is a graet idea, but we must let the world deal with this awful burden before we can look back and decide that it is far enough in the past to be exploited financially in the same way as WW1 and WW2
