When you use a Great Leader to build an army it is like loading units onto a transport. Once on they cannot be removed or replaced. Some say you can only use landbased units, and no body knows whether workers or bombard units can be put together this way and keep their special capacities.
Armies allow the pooling of hitpoints, and they make good offensive forces when attacking well defended cities.
Great Leaders are rarer than unicorns.

Oh and GL's are really hard to get. You can't just fight a whole bunch of battles and get one. It has to be a hard fought battle according to Dan.
Oh and question (somewhat on topic). What do Barracks do? Do they still make units veterans? Just thinking it might be different because veterans are different than they used to be and because of GL's.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.
