thinks that the graphics in CIV 3 is rather charming?

they're quite appealing to me, maybe i'm too shallow as the discussions here mostly center on game mechanics

No vancomycin... you're not being shallow. Graphics are very important in any modern game.

I think that the graphics are superb. They add to the feel of the game, and Firaxis has taken the time to add a feel for the game for each era and each civilization culture. I'm very happy with the graphics, and I can't wait to get this game.

    Well done Firaxis.

I hate the roads/rr. But perhaps is becouse the zoom they use when they make the screenshot. For the rest,

Jingo, how could you say such a thing. Do you really think that you'd have the same experience if the units looked the same and they all had the same sounds? Doesn't game atmosphere mean anything to you?

Uber, having good graphics is not a bad thing to you is it?
The graphics really put you more into the game, make you feel it's real and that you are the leader of the MIGHTY AZTECS, CRUSHING ALL WHO STAND BEFORE YOU AND SACRIFICING MILLIONS FOR YOUR GLORIOUS CAUSE!!

I mean, it furthers the one more turn syndrome...

Vancomycin, that's the best adjective yet for describing the graphics. My original take on the "final version" screen shots a few months back was that they were "odd". Then I kinda' got use to them after I saw more and more of both in menu screen shots and in-world game shots.

I think "charming" is the word I will use when my girl friend comes in and looks over my shoulder and sighs ('cause I've been playing for 2-3 days straight), on why I keep playing.

I have an addictive personality, I am sooo glad I don't have a girlfriend right now (what are you talking about, you've never had one unless you count that 45 minute one online (Yes, I do count that!)) because I know I would just lose her when the game came out!

And yes, charming is definetely a good word. I like the cartoonish type feel everything has to it. Lightens up the game.

heard having computer graphics as a fetish.

                      • We HAVE NOT SEEN any gone-gold maps yet, per Dan. Even from Multiplay.it.
                      • Many non-map screens are way too "pretty", taking up too much real estate. They ARE pretty, though.
                      • The civ status display in the lower right corner of the map has this doohickey on its upper left corner. Unless it is a functional button of some sort, I will be upset about it taking up real estate without reason.

Overall, yes, it is quite pretty, but just as in CtP, much seems to be there just to be pretty. I would rather have more functional areas and less decorative borders.

I don't say that Civ III's outlook is charming or attractive,
but more like "nice to look at". At least the shots we
                        have seen are promising.

I absolutely love the graphics. The landscapes are stunning and the cities are amazing. The classical and industrial gothic city designs are beyond description. The units has looked real nice so far also.

BUT the notable exception here is the leader heads. Those clowns are mucking up an otherwise stunningly beautiful game. Not overly fond of the advisors - especially sid who looks like a rosy cheeked boob. Guess I'll be replacing them . . .

Civ3s graphics are pretty good. Better than Civ2, much better than SMAC (i.e. clearer) and at least they look as good as if not better than CTPs - with or without the shiny red cheeked Sid.

                              I just do not know...
Maybe I am the last freak who would have liked a control bar,
or a panel, on the main screen...
The ice was here, the ice was there, the ice was all around: it cracked and growled and roared and howled like noises in a swound!
