  • Costs of Units

The following costs in shields of various units are taken from
Giochi con schede, recensioni, trucchi e soluzioni per PC, Playstation 3, Wii, XBOX 360, DS, PSP

The picture shows a size 5 city building a settler with 3 lines of 20 shields each, 9 of which are full (27 shields) and the city has a 9 production.
Worker, Warrior: Both 1 turn, cost 20
Archer, Spearman, Catapult: 2 Turns, Cost 40 (Presumably Chariot as well)
Settler, Temple: 4 Turns, Cost 60
    Barracks: 6 Turns, Cost 80
    Granary: 11 Turns, Cost 120

What I wonder about is the distict lack of the "Scout" unit in any of these screenshots. While I've seen them counted against your military support total in one screenshot (The paper Airplane one over at CivFanatics), I have no idea how much they cost or what Tech is needed to build one. Expansionist players take note.

I also think I figured out the smilies. The straight smilie is for things that eliminate unhappy citizens (Temple 1, 2 military units under despotism 1 each, Entertainer 1). The wide smilie is for luxuries that make happy citizens.
Look at the picture at the above link, or at

    Excellent findings!

BTW, if these are the latest screenshots (and it seems so, for the 'improvement' column shows the correct icons), then there is no luxury slider after all. So we´ll have to secure luxury ressources or build improvements to cope with unhappiness.

(OTOH, Dan Magaha said that the luxury slider was out at a time, but made a 'comeback'. I guess we have to waite for Civ3´s release to know for sure.)

I'm not entirely happy about the new city screen but heck, I'm easy. I'm sure I'll learn to love it

I presume that Map making is the prerequisite for the Scout, just as in CivII Seafaring was the prerequisite for the Explorer.

Btw I think that the screen shots really look good.

I am a little bit confused:
When settler or temple need 4 turns, the cost is 80
          Barracks: 6 Turns, Cost 120
          Granary: 11 turns, Cost 220

there are already 27 shields in the box, and a production rate of 9/turn.

            27+4*9 = 63
            27+6*9 = 81
            27+11*9 = 126

I really doubt warrior will cost 20 shields. Although it says 1 turn needed to build warrior/workers, remember that we already have 27 shields accumulated. So warrior is less than 36(27+9) shields, nothing more can be deduced.

Teacher: What would be the point of giving you a test if you understood?

You are close, but not entirely correct. I posted the correct numbers here: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...6&pagenumber=2
