I can see the logic of the pessimists. Pull up a rug, sit around the fire and I will tell you all about it:

You see, they are convincing themselves over and over again that this game is going to be awful and terrible. They nitpick over the most tedious of points to make the game look shoddy at every point. But people, not for the reasons you think. This is so when they get their hands on the game, they will be very pleasantly surprised that the game they have been slagging off for all this time is actually good! They have hit the trough of despair now, so their climax will be even more intense than ours, and I can see the logic. Whereas we have had faith all along. It will be good, but we will not be quite as shocked as they are. There is a method to their madness

Well, as optimistic as I am I can understand the pessemists point of view.

They fall into three camps :

Those who love to hate; they'll buy the game just so they can flame it on the forum. They'll play the game continually and constanly go on about how bad it is. This is spousal abuse. They love it, but they love knocking it more.

Those already let down; the MPlayers, those who after loving mutliplayer Civ 2 will have to wait even longer to get multiplayer Civ 3 ( I never played multiplayer see so I don't care..... )

And the scorned lovers : Those I can relate to most. I mean we know Civ 3 is going to be even better than Civ 2 right? Well we knew that about CTP too and look where that got us. I firmly believed CTP would be brilliant and it took till the sequel to correct some of the glaring problems that were there and yet it STILL isn't as good or addictive as Civ 2 was. Let's hope these pessimists don't have good cause in this case.........

Well this is why, when the game is released, we will probably need a full-time civ3 mod, to take care of all the little whingers and their disruptive threads who will flood, although you will of course get some valuable newbies.

You will get them coming, and probably whinging about nothing in particular...

                Realism?

                Hi,
                my 2 (euro)cents on realism:
the game so far seems good but not awesome -in my opinion, again- because it lacks some depth (sea/space, ecologic reserves, regional management of cities, other things on THE list:
in a way it is a bit too close to civ2, as civ2 was to civ1 IMHO)
and because it lacks some features (MP, and note that I am not a MP fanatic, I almost always play SP).
On the other end the game, being an improvement on civ2, will definitely be good and I will most probably buy it, I am a civ fanatic.
What Firaxis could actually do to "perfect" this product is to produce the patches and upgrades for FREE, I mean I would really not appreciate a sequence like:
                Civ 2
                Civ 2 patched
                Civ 2 scenarios
                Civ 2 multiplayer
                Civ 2 gold
                Civ 2 with double cheese
All sold in separate boxes. You know what I mean, do you ?
The ice was here, the ice was there, the ice was all around: it cracked and growled and roared and howled like noises in a swound!

I am an optimist, too. But I am also happy that there are pessimists in the forum.
Imagine what would happen when there are no pessimists. The forum would not be that funny, and there would be awfully less interesting discussions.
BTW I would not have anybody to convince that optimism is superior.

Well I wasnt really a pessimist and Ive been very optimistic about the game and I cant wait for it to be released and I am gonna buy it the day it comes out, but I am starting to get a tiny bit pessimistic, u see I dont think we should get TOO optimistic cause, lets face it, the game may actually suck and be worse then C:CTP and CTP2, it maybe one of the worst games of all time, you never know till you actually play it.

why not wait until you get it to say things like 'civ3 is better than civ2' and so on?

I find it funny how the first pessimist to come in here said "this will be shut down becouse it is going to be troublesome" then the second one come in and tells us all to shut up becouse yin will smash us... this meens 3 thing to me.

1- they really have no clue what there purpose is (lack of communication)
2- they try to start trouble
3- they all beleive yin is god

                          just my $0.02

The glass is either half empty or half full, pick one... and we will know exactly which naysayers are hiding among our midst.

Truly optomistic here, just want a little positivity on these boards, cause, ugh, you get sick of the whining, *****ing, moaning, and general assnine behaviour of some of these twittering "idjits".

Let's have a naysayers flogging party to start after the next negative post.

I get sick of all the "civ3 will own all other games!" comments from people with no idea as to what they're talking about. So obviously we dig different things. welcome to the world.

do I want civ3 to be good? yeah. Am I buying it? probably. All I know is, I spent $65 on a game that had hype as its only feature just last january. And looking over the fan forums in the weeks before release, any negative comments resulted in massive flaming...pretty much everyone was sold on it purely based on media leaks and whatnot.

civ3 looks great so far, but be an open optimist, not a blind one. and certainly don't attack those with varying viewpoints.
