  • Infogrames on UK Release

All excited after the revelation that the game will be released in the UK on the same day as the US I thought I'd see if there was any news about the arrival of LE. Here is the disappointing response:

    Hi,

The latest release date we have been given for the UK is the 16th November (though this is subject to change) other than this we have been given no further news ourselves with regards to versions (limited editions etc). I will request some updates and as soon as I receive some information I shall pass it on to you.
    Regards

I hope they're wrong, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I suspect they will decide that the quantity of LE sets they would sell in the UK would not justify the expense of getting them produced locally or shipped from the US. This has been the rationale behind why quite a few recent full games and expansion sets haven't even been released outside the US in any form. They rely on the dedicated fanatics who might have bought a local version making the effort to purchase the US one instead.

If Civ III ends up selling huge numbers around Europe they might then think a fancy version of the MP/Expansion viable.

Again, a company treating every part of the world except the US as second class citizens. Can't they just pull their thumb out of their arse and release it in this country, I mean, two weeks, for what? We do have the capability to press computer games

Not if he decides warez is his Civ3 emporium.

Warez can be a pain though, nothing but porn links and a barrage of never-ending windows...I will endeavour to try and find it though. It should be the same day, I don't see a logical reason why not

              How do you cope?

Using Morpheus file exchange would be your best bet. Similar in style to Napster or other mp3 exchange programmes.

Although I woulld stress that if you do use warez that you be honest and buy the game upon release in the UK. Else you are effectively no different to a shoplifter.

LOL, for some reason I thought that said 'pork loins' instead of 'porn links' until I looked really close. Weird?!

Well I have stated in many threads before that I am not going to wait for longer than the US and will those download the game from warez sites until I can purchase the game. But be warned, unless it is including other upgrades to the game a la SMACX, if we are being made to pay extra for an MP version, I will have no qualms about using warez to get the new version. I have paid my money already by then, and will not be happy to shell out for something that should have been included.

So I have every intention of buying the game. But look at it this way, if the game is not available to buy and I download it, it is not a theft, because I wouldn't be able to buy it anyway!

I shall remember to use that defence if caught stealing the Mona Lisa.

That's not true. It is more akin to me taking a picture of the Mona Lisa as it is not for sale, as the original owner is not going to lose anything as it is not up for sale but nor is anything being taken from him...

The darn americans will reveal all the game's goodies as soon as they get their filthy hands on it, thus time to take a break from Apolyton between Oct. 30th - Nov. 16th.

PH: Hotlines is your answer then.

I expect most of the world to use that to get it before even the US get it.

Not paying for intangible goods is just as detrimental as not paying for tangible ones.

Its called lost revenue. They are losing potential sales by people like yourself "stealing" the product. It pushes the price up for the more reputable members of society. Also less turnover will probably lead to new games not being developed as they are not profitable if people are not going to pay for them.

It may not hurt the owners IYO but it has repercussions on those that want Civ4!

I'm glad that Firaxis has decided to take on the task of publishing Civ3 in the UK since Infogrames UK aren't even including the game on their web site as coming soon. Though they do have TechnoMage which was supposed to be out last july. Question is, do I have to place my order directly with Dan?
