Gone Gold has just posted that Civ3 has gone Gold.

Before anybody comes in demanding confirmation from Firaxis. Gone gold only posts it when they themselves get the official word from the company.

What does "gone gold" mean?

"gone gold" is when the coding is all done, and they make the "gold CD", which is the master cd that all other are made from.

Gone gold means that the game is in its final condition, ready for shipment. It gets its name for when they used to make a gold copy of the disk ready to be copied to be shipped to the masses. The name has stuck now to mean when a game is complete and ready to be shipped.
