  • What is the fastest way to get it

Should I preorder (and with whom, Amazon, Chips & Bits, EB)? Or should I just wait to the DAY and then drive to the nearest EB, Circuit City, Walmart or something. I canceled my preorder on Amazon because now I want the LE edition, but their expected delivery date was like 11/9 or something. Where/how is the best way to get it on the day it comes out?

Break into Firaxis HQ. And be sure to tell the rest of us what you find.

Seriously, it depends on where you are and whether you want the heavily subscribed Limited Edition biscuit tin. But if you can get to the shops that day on past experience that will probably beat pre-ordering via the web.

And burn me a copy, I'm going to be waiting an extra two weeks or so out here in Europe.

Hang around outside Firaxis' headquarters, then ambush the car that carries a copy of the game that's to be made into gold master.

Go to EB, Gamestop, or Software Etc. Ask to see the manager. Take him out for lunch, you know one of those establishments that have "adult entertainment". Casually mention that you'd like to get a call as soon as Civ3 comes off the truck. As he enjoys his lap dance, take a few photos to insure timely delivery.

The few games that I really want the first day, I call my local EB store and ask them to reserve a copy. They hold it for 24 hours (not that it will take me that long to pick up Civ 3)

Maybe half the time, the people that order over the web through Compuexpert or EB get their games the same day the EB stores do, but I've NEVER heard of anyone getting the game faster over the web.

I'd be really cautious about the other web sources you mentioned, if it's speed you care about.

I ordered from ebgames.com and the normal delivery says 2-day airmail. In theory, I should get it the first of November (like an early birthday present for me!).
