I wouldn't have a problem with shipping the game to any of my European CIV brethren. I have done this for a SMAX buddy who lived in Germany, where they didn't sell the Alpha Centauri expansion pack. So he sent me money, and I sent him the product.

The only thing is though: why don't you guys just order it online and have it shipped that way?

Also, we Americans have had to wait for European games to be released here too. Specifically, I had to wait for Europa Universalis, The Longest Journey, Independence War 1 and 2, Cossacks.

    It does go both ways.

True, but its rather one-sided in favour of Americans.
I liked it when SMAC was released, as Australia was the first country to get it , but that situation is rare. Actually, that was the first time AFAIK. But even Europe/Asia doesnt get as many games released first as America does.

The best possible way to release Civ 3 would be a simultaneous release globally, but i dont think infogames has the financial power to pull off that sort of thing. It would be a logistical nightmare.

But anyway, for Civ 3, ive ordered it from America. Its the only way for me to get the LE which i really want
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

What reason is there to delay release in one region over another. It happens with films aswell. Why?

if a pub refuses to serve you, do you steal their beer kegs?

Different situations require different treatments. If I cannot buy beer, how else would I acquire it?

I'd very much like to do so, but as you can see, Amazon UK will release it only near the end of the year, and for some warranty/etc. issues, many sites refuse to ship to some countries, including mine.
Electronics Boutique are quoting an ETA of 16th November (which sounds more like it). In reality, both they and Amazon are guessing, and will continue to do so until shortly after its gone gold.

I still think the UK release will be within 1-2 weeks of the US one - I guess we'll know for sure soon enough (I hope!).

                    Let's see:

                    1. Raid your friend's fridge
                    2. Go to a boozer's party
                    3. Visit a brewery
                    4. Attend a beer tasting promo
                    5. Brew your own

Why couldn't the shop sell it if they have it? It seems like a dumb thing for them to have to do.

I have an acquaintance who runs a small-town bookstore. He said that he gets books before the official release date but he isn't allowed to read or sell them until that date by contract. Of course he takes a little peek at the books anyway But usually it's for legal reasons to answer your question.

Hey I'm an American, and I may just join your alliance if it comes out for you guys in mid November. Not because I feel bad for any of you. But I want to finish BG2 and Giants before I get trapped by Civ.

Edit: In reply to Red John's post.

i will definately participate in this "alliance", PROVIDED that i get the money for the game before i buy it. i can't afford to front that much. if you live in europe, and would like to do this, and feel you can trust me (you CAN, but if you don't know me, then i'd of course understand if you didn't trust me) then PM me to let me know, and i'll send you the required info. how i'd like to do it is you'd send the money for the game, i'd buy the game and ship it on my own money, then you'd send me the price of shipping after you recieved the game. i'd do it that way because 1) i can't afford to buy multiple copies of the game all at once on my own 2) i CAN afford the cost to send multiple copies and 3) i don't know exactly what the price of postage will be yet.

Not so, not all the time at least. For one thing, some games (not too many) opt to change the spelling from American to Proper (not intended as an insult) English. Also, some games change to reflect obscure laws (American orange juice tastes disgusting because Americans spike it with caffeine. In Canada, you can do that with Coffee, tea, Cola (not all pop, just DARK COLAS), and very little else. I bet you didn't know about that little law).

I know for a fact that Dungeon Keeper 2 had a unique Canadian edition.

Now, I doubt that most would go to the trouble of converting between English-speaking countries. I just wanted to say that some do, some even have to, and this sort of thing might have something to do with a month's release-delay to Europe.
