  • Untold mysteries of Civ 3 all to be revealed...one week early?

I have noticed that while searching for Civ 3 there was an odd release date for for the Civ Players guide. According to http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=871556
the civ players guide will be released Oct. 24, of course a week earlier than the game itself! Perhaps we will get some new info and something to whet our insatiable appetites a week earlier than we thought.
Interestingly the release date is even earlier at
    www.ebworld.com (10/12)

I don't think it's odd. Many strategy guides are released before the game.

The unfortunate thing with all strat guides is that a lot of the info becomes obsolete when the game is released because of changes that were made after the publication. This is especially true after patches are made.

So if people start posting things they've read in the strat guide, they might not even be true when the game's out.

Good point Pembleton, although I'm sure we will dig up some exciting new info and at least lay to rest some of the mysteries surrounding some of the fundamental gameplay concepts.

strat guide should be in LE
anyway, if its out by 10/12, i will buy it
if its out by 10/24, i will porbably not

and just listen to apolytoners for info
        how much is it anyway?

          I wonder...

...how accurate that date is, though. Someone saw Oct. 16. Since there hasn't been an official release date of the game from Firaxis, I would hesitate to believe the strategy guide date is accurate. They may be hedging their bets on the Oct. 16 initial release date.

          Cheers.

I agree Boris, but all these sites do have the game listed as Oct. 30 so it would imply in any event that the guide will be coming out before the game itself. Whether it will be 2 weeks or 2 days is unclear.

              Infogrames (the publisher) still says...

              "coming in october"

"Don't know exactly where I am"

Many strategy guides are released before the game.
This is a rather strange practice. How good can a strategy guide be a few weeks after the complete game comes out, let alone BEFORE the game comes out?

On the official pre-order video box, the release date listed is 10/18. But then it also says "Date subject to change."

                  I've got my fingers crossed.

Its a good idea to release the strat guides early so a to prey upon our imaptience.

I usually don't buy strat guides because their content is inadequate. But if I am bored enough, maybe I will get the CivIII guide.

Strategy guides blow. After a week these forums will have strategy than you can shake a stick at.

I hope the first thing anybody who buys this guide does after reading it is posting all the info on apolyton.

This is esp. important for us, who will have to wait much longer before the game is released in our countries.

i want the game a lot, dont get me wrong, but I would rather have the game a few days later then to get a buggy, halfdone work. anyway, 0ct 30 is fine, since my bday is a week later.

*looks at post realizing that many people must of made this point already*

                              o well, just in case
