Perhaps Civ III should include strategies in the manual as an extra incentive for people to buy the game?

Strategies in Manual

Not really necessary. You can be sure that within days of Civ 3 being released, more strategies than Firaxis could fit in the manual would have been place on Apolyton. Within weeks, even more strategies would have been found, more advanced strategies, counter-strategies, all continually evolving.
Theres really no need to waste manual space by including strategies in it.I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

The manual though should contain complete information about the game, such as how combats are resolved.(\__/) 07/07/1937 - Never forget

The SMAC manual included two pages of 'remarks and tips'. They weren´t spectacular (sort of 'build a defensive unit after founding a new base'), but the manual was more complete in a way. So I´d like to see a small 'strategy' section in the (hopefully big and chunky) Civ3 manual."As far as general advice on mod-making: Go slow as far as adding new things to the game until you have the basic game all smoothed out ... Make sure the things you change are really imbalances and not just something that doesn't fit with your particular style of play." - WesW

Firaxis has been better about their manuals than most companies, but don't forget that:
1. There will be a separate "strategy guide", which the publishers will make money from (I'm not sure whether the developers do or not), so why give strategies away for free with the game when you can charge $12.95 for them?
2. A lot of the game mechanics are tweaked right up to the moment the game goes Gold, but manuals are printed pretty far in advance. I don't know if you'll see a lot of specific information.
I think the best idea is to keep checking back here.
