Will the person who builds the UN beable to force nations into a cease fire/force trade embargos etc (much like the real UN does)

ie. can you make santions with it in Civ 3?

i do not know. that would be cool if u could do that but it would be unrealistic if a small country that got lucky with the UN put sanctions on a powerful one.

to put UN sanctions on another counrty, everymember of the UN would probably have to vote on it. (like the SMAC ruling council) Whoever builds the UN gets a seat at the table, no matter how small they are. otherwise you need to have at least 25% of the world's population or something

I don't think we've heard anything about what the UN can do, only what it is composed of. The player who builds it, plus anyone who has either 25% of the world population or territory is on the UN.

but it would seem more realistic if the UN could cammand a peace corp. or somthing...

I find this to be very unrealistic. First, this means that only 2 or 3 civs will be on the UN at the same time. This might make it too easy to win a diplomatic victory. Secondly, in the real world, many smaller countries are in the UN. Vanuatu, a south Pacific island with 187000 people, is in the UN. That is only 0.000031% of the world's population. The Seychelles (79000), Andorra (63000), and Liechtenstein (32000) are also in the UN. Pretty soon, Apolyton might be big enough to get a UN Membership!

Maybe you should think of it as the UN Security Council, which only has 5 member states I think. With the 25% rule, you could have 4: 3 big civs plus a small civ that built the wonder

In all likelihood, the required % of population/land mass to join the UN is capable of being modified, probably via the rules.txt file (or equivalent.) Change this percentage to 15% or less, and more nations will wind up on the UN.

Yeah I think the member nations in civ 3 are supposed to be the security council as opposed to the general assembly.

Although I do think that 25% is a bit high.

Well, if it is the Security Council, does it get its own military units?

And even if there are only 2 or 3 people on it at a time, don't you think it is too easy to win a diplo victory? I heard somewhere that the UN has to vote on it. It could end up where you are the only person on the UN and you can vote yourself the winner.
