  • Civ III's Horrible Site

I am using Microsoft Internet Explorer (4.0 I think) MSN Version... using a 56K modem... and the Civ III site takes forever to load. 30 sec- 2 minutes a page- but that is not why the site deserves the title of the thread.

The Site has crashed my computer!
The "trivia" game managed to give me a 401. error... then I returned to the internet, which froze. I left the internet and tried to reconnect- I received a hardware failture, after rebooting I managed to reconnect to the internet.

I don't know How Firaxis can fix this, but I would like to say that at least 1 Person has had trouble with their annoying site.

Oh yes, and the answer to today's trivia question is most likely the "Philistines"

For one thing, you need to to a Windows update badly.
    I'm using version 6 for I.E.

I refuse to do an update... unless Civ III is extremely good- otherwise I will just complain here how Civ III cannot run on a Pentium 200 with a 3D card! It SHOULD run on a P200! If someone can use a P200 to play the Sims which is more graphic intensive and complex than Civ III, a P200 should be able to run Civ III.

... Perhaps i should have called thi thread "Civ III's Crummy Site or Horrible Site." In retrospect, I shouldn't have used such strong words, but the site annoed me.

Every other webpage works fine for me- it is just the Civ III site- even SidGolf loads ok

Dude. It doesn't have anything to do with the site.
It's just a symptom of the sickness that is your computer.
If you never go to the Civ III site, you still need to get the updates. Especially the critical updates.

Actually speaking as a web designer I can understand where Darkcloud is coming from.

The Civ3 site is actually quite graphic/script intensive. I believe it would require a fair bit of memory just to load it, but once its in the cache and fully loaded, it shouldn't be a problem.

IE4 would work fine, but maybe IE5.5 will lesson the tension your computer is having when loading that website.

It's a free download, it will be at download.com

If you don't want to do this, try either of these two things:

You could make sure your caching is on in IE, and load the whole page, don't touch anything or move anything, just let the browser load the page. Also make sure there are no other programs up. So that next time you go there, it will just pull it out of the cache and not have too much hassle with your ram.

Or you could turn off a few things under the advanced tab in internet options. But this would be pushing it just to load one website.
            be free

Maybe I should do an update too. But how do I tell which version of IE I have?

My dial-in connection is limited to 33.6 as that's all the university dial in can take, but I have no problem with Civ3.com taking any longer then every other webpage to load. It loads at the same pace as Gamespot.com
