    Will Civ3 support WinXP?

I mean I guess since it will support Win2k it will support WinXP as well.

But please not that you have to run Civ3 as adminstrator privilegies.

I don't actually know, so don't put too much weight on my words, but as no-one else answered I thought I would throw in my minimal knowledge, which is that I am sure I read a thread on an earlier day which implied it would work in XP.

I can't guarantee anything, of course, but I'm almost 100% sure it will work with XP.

From what I've read about XP, that should not be an issue in the least. According to a review on the Computer Games Online website, XP has compatiblity modes built in that allow you to tell Windows to trick a particular application into thinking it is running in 95/98/NT4/2000 without any rebooting whatsoever, mearly by adjusting the properties of the shortcut for that app to an OS version you know it should work with.

        For more details, go here.

I'm hoping this works as promised, because it would be nice to get around all the headache of developers who either don't want to support old software, or want to force you to pay mucho $$$ to upgrade to their latest version.

Well it is windows and this is a new game, so it would be extraordinarily unlikely for it not to be totally compatible with XP. It works with win2k, so I see no possible reason why it wouldn't work with XP...

I've ran Civ2 in WinXP with no compatibility mode selected and it worked fine. I would be amazed if Civ3 had any problems with WinXP if a half-decade old game doesn't.

Yeah, except some games from this year (see High Heat Baseball 2002) won't work with XP at all. I've been trying but it's a no-go.

Civ III is being built on W2K computers and it works fine. Everything that I have had that worked on 2K works on XP without any problems. It will work. The game will be coming out when XP is being released and Infogrames is not foolish. It will work.

I hope so. Most Win2k stuff works on XP as well but some stuff doesnt very well.
Suddenstrike for example quits to desktop after about 2 secs.

And Diablo2 requires Admin priviledges to be played. Waaa I really hate that. I see really no reason why you would need admin priviledges, but no it wont play without them.
Not that that happens with civ3 as well.

About the compatibility mode: hmm that doesnt work. I have chosen Win98/ME for Suddenstrike and it wouldnt even start (although under win98 (my prev os) it did).
I wouldnt give much on that compatibility mode. Sounds better than it is.

                  Cheers,

I am pretty sure anything that was expressively written for NT will work in the newest version. There are a few problems without multiple users using a computer simultaneously, but that should not be a problem in a video game.

Are you sure it will not play or just not install? Many things take admin status to install on the computer but then can be run in any setting.

It might be a driver problem. Have you updated everything recently? Plus, you need more resources to run compatability as the OS has to do both the XP stuff and the mimic OS. On top of that it has to run the game. But yeah in the end the compatibility thing is not very strong.

I'm positive it will work in XP too. They would be insane not to support it, and 90% of existing games already work with it, it seems.

But the "compatibility mode" thing hasn't done squat for me yet. If I have a program that doesn't work on XP, it doesn't work no matter what mode I set it too. That's been my experience so far. Sounds like a great idea, better on paper than in real-life apparently.

It will run under XP...but I'm not sure if it will run smoothly on Win2000...

Its the Copy Protection of the CD.
D2 uses SecureROM. I hope Civ3 will use something else.
