In my opinion fun would be better. For example, I'd rather have Cleopatra fashioned as the (terribly inaccurate) dark-skinned coquette/seductress of pop culture, than as a Mediterranean queen with the correct number of snakes on her headdress. ("You fool! Snakes were the symbols of pre-Ramses UPPER Egypt pharaohs!") (BTW, the current Civ3 Cleopatra is neither fun nor realistic and therefore fails to meet either standard.)
I liked the High Council advisors in Civ2. Each had his/her own personality (enthusiastic geek, cheezy brown-noser, etc.). I particularly liked their internal squabbles. I'd love it if Civ3 had used live actors for the leaders!
I quickly turned off the Civ2 animated heralds. Their continual bobbing around was as annoying as animated banner ads.
As for the Civ3 leaders, I agree with whoever said they're ugly. Perhaps American media, film, and TV have convinced me that only beautiful people are worth watching. I wouldn't mind if they went in a cartoon direction (like Civ1 leaders). However, it seems that whenever they go for 3D modeling the result is unappealing. The current Civ3 leaders scare me (especially Queen Elizabeth. "Give us the secret of railroad or I'll put my face on all your pop-up windows!").

To be honest I don't care as mush about how the leaders look, as long as a two-year-old child doesn’t paint them in paintbrush.

Either way, Mao's face is neither accurate nor funny. Simply ugly.(\__/) 07/07/1937 - Never forget
