let's pray for an incredible difficult question tomorrow, value 80 points. (that's what I need to become #1 )
And what hope that they all also miss? Like that will happen.

          • "Who does not learn of that in High School."

Quite a surprising number, actually. I know world history cause I read it indipendently, didn't rely on the school system. . .

              • Okay...number of hoplites in a phalanx. I did get it right, though I was forced to guess. All my searches wielded different results. Numbers as low as 32 and as high as 300 are mentioned in the web-pages that I found.

I wonder where Firaxis have their "answer" from??

                • Well, I got this question wrong and I think it's because Firaxis (or whoever makes these questions) once again screwed up

I don't want to give away the answer but there are 2 things about phalanxes (or whatever the plural is) that are pretty much the same throughout Greek history (well, except for Macedonian phalanxes but even in that case the so called 'correct' answer is still not possible) and with the answer of this question these constants cannot possibly both apply.

Edit: Asmodean, I don't know what the smallest phalanx formation ever was but 300 certainly wasn't the largest. The largest phalanx formation that I know of was 120 men deep and I highly doubt that it was only 2 or 3 men wide. The largest formations consisted of thousands of men.

I wonder too. The Firaxis site said the source was '(Source: Columbia Encyc, phalanx)'. Well, I checked on www.encyclopedia.com, which is the online version of the sixth edition of the Columbia Encyclopedia, and it did not mention any specific size for a phalanx. See here.

I did find the original dimensions on two different sites, and made a multiplication . It took me an hour to find today's answer, and it only gave me 20 points . Where do they get the facts? I need that book(s). It would speed up the search. I think I've guessed to many times already, and I did almost guess (wrong) today, I had decided to guess if the answer wasn’t on that last page I loaded, and there it was another dimension.

                        • Overhere in Europe I have very big problems by connecting to civ3.com. Some people say a cable has been broken in some ocean, other people say that our connection exchange in Amsterdam is broken. Anyway, yesterday it took me 1 hour to load the civ3 trivia page. (first had to get to civ3.com, than to civtrivia page, than I had to login and than I had to answer)

                          took pretty much time
BUT fortunately I could load apolyton quiet quick and I could read the 'news item' about the trivia, and could search for the answer
Thanks apolyton !!!!! Can I change my vote and say YES to the "should the trivia be a newsitem" question.
Cos when I finally got the trivia page loaded I had already found the answer 40 points in 60 minutes.

today is a crime again, those hoplites suck

                          • Hmmmmmm, got todays answer wrong (after 30 minutes of loading )

really strange, I found a few websites that all told me the same answer, and no websites that told me the answer that Firaxis claims to be right. That makes 60 points lost with answers that might have been right...........

                            • My connection has been fine at the moment, no problems with anywhere.

Also my luck with these civ3 questions has been picking up too, I have got the last few correct
