  • Ok, so what's the multiplayer setup like?

Has this ever been answered around here? If not, does anyone know? Will it be set up in the same fashion as 2, or do we have a whole new set up?

As far as I'm concerned, the games not worth buying unless it's well equipped for multiplay (and hopefully better than 2's model)

I'm hoping for hot-seat* and direct cable connection along with all the "normal" types of multiplayer: modem-to-modem, internet, ISP, etc.

*That way I can play Civ3 with my awesome wife.

There have been plenty of threads about multiplayer options, but little or nothing is known at this time.

I believe that civ3 will be set up differently from civ2 (improved, of course) and it will include all the common options for hotseat, internet, etc.

Don't you love it when this happens? My post actually belongs after drake's.

Oh, you are SO right. I always tease her about attacking her, but I know that if I do, I'm in the dog house. Whenever we play Civ together, we're always buddy-buddy --and that's fun too.

PBEM is the one I am hoping for. Online multiplay is difficult for me and many others.

LAN play would also be useful.

Firaxis had originally said that they planed on giving us hotseat, lan, pbem, and others in their FAQ. Now there is no word as to what they will provide other than some new concept.

Well we are waiting and the game is coming out in a month and a half. I hope that if Dan is reading this he has at least some idea as to what they are doing even if he is not going to tell us.

I hope Hot Seat isn't half-assed like it was in Civ2 Gold/TOT; having AI handle the diplomacy of players when it isn't their turn is just stupid. Especially considering how screwed up and unrealistic the AI is when it came to diplomacy.......

there MUST be TCP/IP (ip to ip) connection or i am returning civ3.

                      no joking.

I fully expect TCP/IP to be integrated into CIV3.
PBEM on the hand, might be a different story...but let's hope not.

Well remember, I reckon this section will be an improvement on the SMAC system, which has all MP (TCP/IP, PBEM, etc) all as standard. Why would you expect any less in the present day?

Because 'less' is usually what we get these days.
