You know SMAC got some "improvements" (patches) before Alien Crossfire expansion was released.
Using that patches process, Firaxis not only removed bugs, but tweaked some game variable, balanced some factions, added some (minor) features, added some special terrain.
The real limits, if not for download dimension that already needs a Very Large Band connection, or a dedicated satellite
, is how much it cost to the company to add things on a free upgrade.As long as the free support help the company, sustaining the game selling, all looks very well and good.
I hope (and already posted this one time too much
) that Firaxis will support us for long time, helping (not resting on their effort) best fan MODS and scenario adding professional touch and an official presence as "recommended" on Civ III site.
