Hah... Apolyton is a recognisable site name, but is hard to remember :sigh:

I have a feeling that the big times are coming (in terms of new members) I guess that Dan, Mike or the other Jeff will remember the name

        Trust me Mark,

in 2 yrs time, every Civ III player will know what it means

Am I being overly optimistic? (now we need a question smiley)

        I think not...

think of it this way, at least 80% of civ III players will have internet access (unlike civ II) and you are already on the Civ3.com links section.

If you just get mentioned somewhere more on their site, like news section ( if someone here organises a first Civ III MP tournament )

        that is it.

this site will slow to a crawl

I also think that if Firaxis specifically mentions «Apolyton» in an interview other civ sites might get dissapointed or pissed off. Marketing policies are a b!tch.. but... what can you do

Mark, perhaps you should send Fireaxis some of those Apolyton TShirts as "reminders". Perhaps this would be even more successful when they don´t have to pay for it...everything has its price.

Well done Jeff! The last thing we need are more users slowing down the server even more

I do that(well, not anymore now that I have the forums bookmarked) because when I load up my browser, the google search entry is already selected, and I'm too lazy to reach up to the address bar and type it in.

The thing about the interview that I noticed the most, is the emphasis that Firaxis is placing on making civ3 fun and easy to understand. I hear people here on this board that are dissapointed that civ3 won't have tons of new techs, wonders and units. But more isn't always better. I agree with Firaxis that it is better to aim for quality than quantity. Civ3 won't have tons of new techs, units etc but what is in the game will be fun, immersive, understandable and meaningful. We will be able to relate to each civ because each one will have its own abilities, flavor, in one word: personality. We will understand each tech.

There will be fewer techs, and units and such but everything will have its proper place and balance! As a result, the game will be much more enjoyable!

Besides, they can always add more techs, wonders, units later in an expansion pack. Right now, they just need to make a great game!
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

Ok but there are two visible 'misses' if you can call them that way. Or at least a decent percentage of people could assoicate with it if it is true, as it stands now.

                        1. screen resolution limit on 1024x768

                        2. civ diplomatic screens not setup to support 16 civs

I could add that I taught that combat will be CTP style, but I guess mayority will not be bothered too much about it. The two before could be fixed in the first patch, since they will affect many users in the future.

To have only two issues I think it is not too bad (considering how many people you have to please )
