  • EB rip-off

Because Amazon doesn't seem to be selling the limited edition of Civ3 I went over to EB to pre-order. Those criminals charge $35 for postage!!!!!!!

If I calculate it right, it will be about $72 dollar.
Shipment will take 10-20 days at that rate.

I think I will try local shops...

Cannot wait 20 days, not even 10!

              Local shops...ha!

Don't fool yourselves...shops in NL are extremely slow and typically do not have titles at the time of the American release. Even with a postal delay, online ordering is bound to be faster.

Though I'll follow Mark's advice and wait a bit to see more LE offers pop up.

Why would you get EB to mail it to you? just reserve a copy and go down to the shop to pick it up, that's what I always do.

Sid: It's the little differences. A lotta the same **** we got here, they got there, but there they're a little different.

                  Jeff: Examples?

Sid: Well, in Berlin, you can buy games in German. And I don't mean just the packaging either. They give you the entire game, translated into Kraut. In Stockholm, you can buy Civ3 at department stores. Also, you know what they have as the biggest computer store in Stockholm?

Jeff: They don't have Electronics Boutique?

Sid: No, they got the Swedish system there, they wouldn't know what the **** an EB is.

                  Jeff: What'd they call it?

                  Sid: "Spelbiten".

Jeff: "Spelbiten". What do they have instead of Game?

Sid: Game is Game. But they call it "Game Videospel".

                  etc.

                        SID:
Now I want you to reach in that box and find my game.

                        MANNAMANGUS:
                        Which one is it?

                        SID:
It's the one that says "Limited Edition" on it.
Now open up your wallet and take out some cash.
                        How much ya got?

                        MANNAMANGUS:
                        About seventy five dollars.

                        SID:
Put it back in your pocket, its yours.
Now with the cash, the game and the tin box,
that makes this a pretty successful little score.

                        JEFF:
Sid, if you give this nimrod a limited edition for free,
I'm gonna shoot him on general principle.

                        SID:
You ain't gonna do a goddamn thing,
now hang back and shut the f*ck up.
Besides, thought I ain't sellin' it to him for money,
he's buyin' it for somethin' more than money.
Wanna know what you're buyin' it with Ringo?

                        MANNAMANGUS:
                        What?

                        SID:
Your life. I'm sellin' you that game for a big chunk o' your life. You read the Bible?

                        MANNAMANGUS:
                        Not regularly.

                        SID:
                        There's a passage I got memorized.

Ezekiel 25:17. "The path of the
righteous man is beset on all sides
by the inequities of the selfish
and the tyranny of evil men.
Blessed is he who, in the name of
                        charity and good will, shepherds
the weak through the valley of the
darkness. For he is truly his
brother's keeper and the finder of
                        lost children.
And I will strike down upon thee
                        with great vengeance and furious
anger those who attempt to poison
and destroy my brothers. And you
will know I am the Lord when I lay
                        my vengeance upon you."

I been sayin' that sh!t for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant I just took your cold hard cash and a chunk o' your life. I never really questioned what it meant. I thought it was just a cold-blooded thing to say to a motherf*cker 'fore you sold him a game that would empty his wallet and consume every waking hour he had for the next year. But I saw some sh!t when Reynolds left made me think twice. Now I'm thinkin', it could mean you're the evil man. And I'm the righteous man. And Mr. LE here, he's the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or it could be you're the righteous man and I'm the shepherd and it's the world that's evil and selfish. I'd like that. But that **** ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin'. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd. Tell you what - keep your money.

[Mannagamus grabs his Limited Edition and runs out the door]

Sid, who was never risen from his seat the whole time, takes a sip of coffee.

                        SID:
                        (to himself)
                        It's cold.

He pushes it aside. Jeff appears next to Sid.

                        JEFF:
I think we oughta leave now.

                        SID:
                        That's probably a good idea.

                        -----------
Sorry it went long, but it was too much fun.
What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?

I hope the local store is going to have some LE... I don't like mail ordering, except for maybe books.
