Postia ante deletia. More accurately, postia ante agitas.

Art is an emergent property of carbon.

Are you talking about the culture rating? If you are, there is a faq about it here.

See, this would have been helpful before...

The first link to the culture advisor screenshot...what does this have to do with anything? Art isn't mentioned on it.

                The second link...hmmm.
I think this is just emphasising the role that arts-oriented structures have in getting you culture points quickly.

                  From the faq:

"Culture is a very important component of Civ III. It is the general social cohesion of your civ, as well as the impact of your nation's philosophy and arts on the world"

do you mean what is art in reference to civ3? The "arts" make a major part of your culture etc......other than that......I don't think you can build paintings in civ3 and what not

Art? Hmmm... you can have some great fun with a paintbrush and your neighbours cat.

                          1: Load up civ3.
2: Take out paintbrush and paint.
3: Paint over monitor screen to in desired colour.
                          4: scrape off paint.
                          5: repeat steps 3 and 4 twenty-four times a second.

From what I spotted from the screenshots, I think I know what arts are. In civ2 you could divide up your income between science, luxuries and taxes. You do the same in civ3 of course. But of course luxuries are something totally different; traded commodities that offset unhappiness. I think the civ3 name for the earlier civ concept of 'luxuries' is now 'art' Makes sense, doesn't it?
