  • I think I figured something out!

In the new pair of screenshots from the official civ3 site, I have been wondering what the numbers next to the city name mean. Under the city, we see a "tag" that looks like this:

    12 Babylon:1
    Hanging Gardens:7

Obviously the big 12 is the population and "Hanging Gardens:7" is the current production item and the remaining turns until completion. "babylon" is the name of the city but what is the "1" mean?
Well, I think I figured it out. I think the number next to the city is the number of turns until the pop increases.
If I am right, this is very cool. The number of turns until pop increase and the number of turns until production is complete are two very important pieces of info. In previous civ games, the player had to go to the city screen for each city in order to find out. It seems like, in civ3, this info will be more readily accesible right on the main map.

For some of you, this is probably old news. But I thought I would mention it even so.
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

    Old news.

Thanks for posting, though. I'm sure it'll come as a surprise to quite a few.

This is definately another way cool item.

This feature will have a strong impact at the beginning of a cities life as you will be able to predict how soon you could build another settler.

This seems like more of a convenience than anything else. When I was playing games where every turn counted, I would sit down and do the calculation myself. This makes it easier to micromanage.

The devil is in the details.

Now if the text goes bold or a different colour if the new pop will cause revolt that really will be cool for us lazy guys who don't do the math
To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.

That's all fine and dandy but you need to add verse for

                    Depotism after 4 cities beware
Monarchy after 7 cities. soldiers, oh my
Monarchy after 11 cities needs prayer.
Hanging Gardens gives you a bye.
