  • anyone else worried about the exclusion of Brian Reinolds??

He was the real person behind Civ 2 and SMAC. Yet since he left firaxis, he has NOTHING to do with Civ 3.

God I sure hope the others including Sid do....

Yeah but Brian Renyolds had nothing to do with the first game - SM's Civilization. That was designed by Sid and Bruce Shelley.

Bruce and Sid had little to do with Civ II other than suggestion. Brian unknown at the time went to England and built the game.

Shelley went on to build Age of Empires with Rick Gooldman who has then gone on to begin work on Empire Earth.

What's my point? That the team has never been the same and yet they have all continued building better and better games. New people have stepped up and carried the genre forward and in new directions. I am not worried about this in the slightest.

Oh and I forgot to say, he is not being excluded at all. Brian left with some other guys from Firaxis including Tim Tran and formed a new company called Big Huge Games. They are currently producing a RTS game that is going to be heavy in strategy. There has not been a title or theme released yet. Check out more information at http://www.bighugegames.com

well i suppose you are correct in that respect. However, i truely enjoyed Civ 2 and SMAC and I hope Sid can recreate if not enhace Brian Rs. magica touch with civ 3.

If anything BR only recreated Sid's magic by making Civ II. In my opinon Civ I is still the better game of the time in which it was. And if it will set your mind at ease any, Sid is not the head guy on Civ III, it is instead Jeff Briggs - the guy who did the music on both Civ I and II.

Depending on what you mean by "head guy." Sid definitely has his say in Civ 3.

Well, here's a question, do Firaxis/Sid still talk with Brian? I know the press releases made it sound cordial, but was it? My biggest question is then, does Brian like Civ3? If he thinks its a great game, after his experiences creating Civ2, Colonization, and SMAC, I'd lose any doubts as to how great Civ3 will turn out.

Pessimists point of view coming next...

Frankly could we even trust in a review by Brian?

I at least would have to be somewhat skeptic...
                  Why?

                  Well let's just see:
                  • Brian worked on the title - blaming it hits himself too
                  • Brian is told to have good relations to FIRAXIS at his departure - does a friend stab you in the back?
                  • Brian owns a share in FIRAXIS (Or has he sold it?) Blaìming Civ3 affects FIRAXIS profists thus afecting Brians share -$$$ talks

OK, this was assuming that Brian didn't like the fianl product...
Now let's see what could Brian do if he didn't like Civ3? I think he couldn't give it a bad review of reasons stated earlier. Giving a good review is lying - maybe he has some interest in not lying. So what??

Well he could choose to not to talk about Civ3, this way he wouldn't be lying and he wouldn't affect negatively the sales of Civ3 - HEY WAIT A MINUTE...

OK, have to say something positve too...
The best news FIRAXIS has told recently to me is theire statement that we haven't seen the final graphics jet. This means there still is hope...
THX firaxis for this small, but yet so important piece of information.

At the end of the list I saw someone who seems to be sensible. Why do you care about the team ? Just the game matters.

And perhaps the man who had the idea at the beginning, because he can be considered as an author.

                    That's all folks.

PS: However, I must confess that I dislike German Emperors.
