  • F15 vs. MiG

I'm not talking about actual facts about these aircrafts, but about how they will perform in Civ 3. If Russia & America discover flight at the same time, then will both nations special units be the same strength?

I'm happy you stated "how they will perform in Civ 3 vs actual facts". In real life the F-15 was designed between 1966 to 23, Dec. 1969 and first few in July 1972, entering service in Nov. 1974. The Mig-29 was design in the beginning of the 70s, first few in 1977, enter V V S in 1983. The USN F-14 was selected as the winning design on 15, Jan. 1969, first few 21, Dec. 70, and enter service on Oct. 72.
If you look at the forward fuselage the Mig look like the F-14. However the Wings are very close to the F-15. It's not hard to figure how they designed their plane.
Back to Civ 3. The two planes were design 10 years a part, so in the game, the F-15 should be one or two turns before the Mig. But since they Firaxis will not do that, they will be available the same turn.
    Here are some stats
    .
F-14A, Max speed w/4 missile 1,544 mph, engine PW TF-30-P-412A producing 20,900 lbs ea.

F-14A plus, engine GE F110-GE-400 producing 23,100 ea. No speed given. My est. around 1,600 mph. (see below)
Climb 60,000 2.1 min. Service ceiling 56,000, Range 2,000 mi., Combat range 450 mi., Span from 28 ft, to 64 ft., Length 61 ft, 11 3/4 in., Height 16 ft.

F-15E, Max speed short endurance 1,676 mph w/PW F100-PW-229 engine producing 23,450 lbs ea., sustained 1,518 mph, absolute ceiling 100,000 ft., range 2,878 mi., span 42 ft., 9 1/2 in. length 63 ft., height 18 ft., 5 1/2 in.

    Mig-29, Max speed 1,518 mph., Max initial climb 64,960 ft/min., Range 932 mi., span 37 ft. 3 1/2 in. Length 56 ft., 9 7/8 in. height 15 ft., 6 1/4 in. Engine Klimov RD-33K producing 19,400 lbs ea.

Ref: The Complete Book of Fighters, The American Fighter.

The USAF has between 16 and 30 Mig-29 at Wright-Patterson AFB, so that each and every one of our fighter pilot can fly them, so we know all of the weak points of this airplane.

Keeping in mind I have no idea how the Civ3 combat system will work, keep in mind:

The F-15 can carry more missiles, and has a more advanced radar, increasing it's attack power. (It's range and speed is only slightly higher)

The Fulcrum has greater maneuverability, adding to defense, and is much cheaper.

Both should perform better than run-of-the-mill fighters and their performance should reflect real life.
