  • Dreamers vs Realists

i think this forum is full of dreamers.

surely, dreaming is the beginning of big things, and most of, if not all, of the suggestions are thought provoking and would make for a great game.

but civ3 is supposedly 80% completed.

what do u think this fourm is made up of?

    Realists.

I think most people realize that there opinion is not going to change much. Most of us just are waiting for the release date and want to discuss every aspect of the game that we see with other civ fanatics.

There's a mix. There's nothing wrong with indulging ourselves in our ideas, so long as we don't say "I'm not going to buy civ3 if it doesn't have x, implemented like so..."

No product would ever change if it were not for user feedback.

I'll be pretty upset if there aren't any plasma rifles...

Seriously though, I'm guessing that this forum is populated by more realists than dreamers. Most dreamers are new posters who don't realize that Civ III is at the stage where user feedback will probably not be very useful; when others let them know that Civ III is only a few months (years?) from release, then they become realists.

Well there are also two other camps; cynics and optimists. Yin26 leading the former and god knows who leading the latter. We are more interested in trying to figure out what is going on in the game.

Heh, I'd have to agree with that sentiment, though I didn't even realize there were any optimists here. Every time I come here, I always see some post like:

"As we all know, Civ3 has horrible AI, diplomacy, units and is currently inhabited by demons. WHY DOESN'T FIRAXIS DO SOMETHING? If they would only update their website, things would be better! This game is so buggy and has so many flaws that they are greater than the stars in the sky! Also, it would be cool if riflemen could shoot twice in a turn"

There's an awful lot of pessimism for a product that hasn't been released yet. Chill, folks. It will be okay.

                And what if its not?

I will have wasted countless hours. Hundreds of posts and probably 50 bucks on something that is not ok.

If it's not, then you've done all you could, short of getting a job at Firaxis or holding them at gunpoint. Nobody forced you to spend hours talking about the game, or to spend your money. If it sucks, and I would highly doubt that it will, then you'll let your displeasure be known by not supporting the company.
