The colours really look bad.
They should not only make them custumisable,
but also change the default!

Now that everbodys mentioning it I see it as well, they just pasted the road on top of the terrain
It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - DrosedarsComment

I am only guessing, but what I guess is: there will be the same (8) colours like civ2 where. Greene, yellow, purple, white (never seen until now), blue, orange (also not seen), "chinese"-blue, red (remember the colonies screenshots: rome was red). And then is there a 9th colour: grey - for the barbarians. That means to me, there could be 8 nations + barbarians in one game. Or may be one replace one of the other coulours then are 7 in one. The nations colour seems to be not "hardcoded" like civ2 was.Arne · Das Civilization ForumComment

Another thing about those roads - I have trouble as it is moving a howitzer to its taget without accidentally ending-up on a square with just bare terrain (where it's picked-off in due course by a stealth fighter).

Now that I think about it, it doesn't seem very logical that Civ3 would only allow 7 civs. The only reason they had 7 civs was because there were 21 possible civs / 3 colors = 7 civs. 16 possible civs / 2 colors = 8 civs at once? It's an improvement, but I would still like to see 16.
P.S. the Chinese should be red
