I never said that, of course the options will be in the game, just as they were in SMAC. A website would be for player matching, ladder games and community support.

I just hope that they have LAN MP that is at least as good as Civ2 MGE. I love playing LAN it's the best way to play.
However, it is difficult to believe that 2 times 2 does not equal 4; does that make it true? On the other hand, is it really so difficult simply to accept everything that one has been brought up on and that has gradually struck deep roots – what is considered truth in the circle of moreover, really comforts and elevates man? Is that more difficult than to strike new paths, fighting the habitual, experiencing the insecurity of independence and the frequent wavering of one’s feelings and even one’s conscience, proceeding often without any consolation, but ever with the eternal goal of the true, the beautiful, and the good? - F.N.

I would like to see Civilization move up to professional status with certified tournaments like chess has. In order for this to happen there needs to be an official place where matches are played, and results are certified and recorded.

Well, I haven't played SMAC for than an hour (and it was offline), so I don't know how their MP support is like. And it's not of course it is in the game, just take the game Settlers IV, there you have to go to the website, install and other program to join/host games, while in Settlers III it was all inplented in the game...

I don't like the join by IP adress, I want it to be able to search for an IP adress with a game just about to start
This space is empty... or is it?

I prefer a server, actually a bunch of servers, to play online. The system Activison has for their CTP games is about the only thing they did right with a civ game. You can meet in a game lobby to set up a game. Plus I don't like ICQ; horrendous amouts of spam, the program is a resource hog, the unwanted contacts. Just give me a place to go to meet players and play the game. Fraxis wouldn't be running the servers, usually the game publisher does that and Firaxis is the game developer.

That's what I'm talking about, everything else would be annoying

I think a MP system for Civ III should compose of two sections.

One would be the Blizzard type server where everyone could log on to find someone to play against.

The other section would be for play be email games. There should be a way built into the game where the game would update itself and find out what PBEM games you need to play and then send them for you. The best way to do this would be a centralized Firaxis server where you would play your turn upload it and then your opponent would download it.

                    Just my two cents.
