  • Nuclear Age Event ?

    While plodding through a game of CTP2 one night while watching a Discovery Channel show on supposed military contact with extra-terrestrials I came up with a thought about a possible "Encounter" event for CIV3.

    The way I've envisioned the event is this;
    Shortly after a player in the game has successfully developed nuclear weapons, a trigger in the game would cause strange lights in the sky around a city belonging to that Civ, and an "artifact" would appear on the game board. Then, (stealing a page from Colonization) each player would have the opportunity to race their units to the site to recover the artifact and return it to one of their cities. Upon securing the artifact the owning civ would then have the opportunity to reverse-engineer it. A mini tech tree could result from this - at an increased research cost this tree would be available to the owner of the artifact. Some of the advances I can think of off the top of my head could be fibre-optics, stealth, anti-gravity, & matter replication. Like all other techs those acquired from this artifact could be fully tradeable and be stolen. Also, if the city housing the artifact was taken, the new tech tree would be available to the new owner, and no longer to the original owner.

    ...just a thought

    If another civ were to capture the city housing the

    No, I don't really like it for Civ. It's just too much sci-fi for me. It wouldn't be that bad of an idea for maybe SMAC.
    However, it is difficult to believe that 2 times 2 does not equal 4; does that make it true? On the other hand, is it really so difficult simply to accept everything that one has been brought up on and that has gradually struck deep roots – what is considered truth in the circle of moreover, really comforts and elevates man? Is that more difficult than to strike new paths, fighting the habitual, experiencing the insecurity of independence and the frequent wavering of one’s feelings and even one’s conscience, proceeding often without any consolation, but ever with the eternal goal of the true, the beautiful, and the good? - F.N.

      Very interesting idea. If this happened and your government tried to keep it secret (cover-up), would your cities riot?

      However, I must agree with TechWins. It just doesn't fit in with civ.

        Aliens visiting Earth should be reserved for scenarios, not actual gameplay. Remember you are rewriting the history of the world, not adding to it.

            Yeah, you're all right - just one of those what if ideas that come from playing a game while watching alien conspiracy shows on TV...

              It reminds me to much of CTP, keep the sci-fi stuff out of civ
              It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars

                Always a good scenario...highly advanced civ in the midst of lower tech civs...would require a good modpack.
