  • Different Maps = Different Terrain

This morning (it is now 3:30 P.M. my time) I thought of this new idea, and I have not seen it discussed in the long time that I have been here. I happen to think it is great, and really needs to be added to the game. Well, here it is:

At the start of the game, after you choose your map size and everything before starting, there should be new options, ones that would allow you to customize your terrain that would be in your map, so if you like mountainous terrains, or you like fighting in the jungle, this is how you would do it:

    1. Lush Green Map - This map would contain approximately 50 - 80% of forests, and jungles, just as the name implies.

    2. Green Grasslands Map - This map would contain approximately 50 - 80% of Green Grasslands, just as the name implies.

    3. Snowy map - 50 - 80% has snow and glacier terrain.

    4. Mountainous Map - 50 - 80% hills and mountains.

    5. Desert Map - 50 - 80% Desert and Dry terrain.

    6. Water World - 50 - 80% water (including rivers, oceans, and lakes).

    7. Custom map - If you choose this map, it takes you to a choosing table (like diplomacy I think), where you choose any or all terrain to be placed on your map. Also, it will have a choice for you if you want all terrain placed, if you do, then the map spreads out all terrain evenly.

NOTE - You may also choose if you want your map to be islands, or continental based, or a mixture of both.

IF we are going that tour, we might as well go for entire customisability.

That would mean you can set your own percentages (a bit like SMAC, only then more refined)

Then you could say like 50% water (<-- I NEVER go for less (Navy rules )
    25% forest
    10% mountainous terrain
    10% arid
    5% Grass/plains (for a more competitive game )
Or you could just randomise it into larger categories (rather like Civ2)
I don't see the need for your "water world" ideas. Just keep the selecting screen of Civ2, gives enouh options IMO

But I also hope for a USABLE map editor(not the crappy SMAC in-game thing), so I can create my own maps

If you like the civ2 style, then go ahead and play civ2, but most of us want civ3 to be better.

in sim city 2000 you could say like "80% water cover" and stuff like that.

        slidebars maybe?

Actually Diablo somebody did mention something similar to this before in the even shorter time that I've been here. They said something like (not quoted) "I want to be able to have a map the way I want it without using the Map Editor". I do agree with you that there should be something like this.

The map editor was just too boring for me. The only time I've had fun using it was when I TRIED to make a world map. The map really wasn't that bad.
However, it is difficult to believe that 2 times 2 does not equal 4; does that make it true? On the other hand, is it really so difficult simply to accept everything that one has been brought up on and that has gradually struck deep roots – what is considered truth in the circle of moreover, really comforts and elevates man? Is that more difficult than to strike new paths, fighting the habitual, experiencing the insecurity of independence and the frequent wavering of one’s feelings and even one’s conscience, proceeding often without any consolation, but ever with the eternal goal of the true, the beautiful, and the good? - F.N.
