    Poll changes

I've clarified the second and third options of the poll by editing the first post of this thread, the changes of which are highlighted in red .
So, does that make a difference to the way you vote?

Multiplayer is the least important thing for me. I say spend more time developing the workings of the game, then release multiplayer later on.

MP and SP. After all, it's much more fun to kill fellow humans.

MP is very very important, and like phoenixcager said "They'd better have PBEM!"

Seriously, I don't think the tech exist for an AI that could provide more entertainment than another human being, AI's use scripts, and after a while, you can easily predict them.

but with humans... oh.. devious li'l bastich....

MP is definitely important. and "They'd better have PBEM!"

Your Mama! You suck man, but your Mama's sweet! You suck, but your Mama, ohhh... Uh-huh, your Mama! Far out man, you do suck, but not as good as your Mama! So what's it gonna be? For a long time I only played SP. Then I decided to play an online game, it was fun but it seemed as if it was to difficult to coordinate. I then played a Hot Seat game, it was more fun at the beginning than the internet game but became very boring because of the long turns. Finally I played a LAN game. Which in my opinion is the best way to play. You still have to wait for your turn to come around but you can do things while you're waiting. I actually spend more time doing stuff when it's not my turn rather than when it is my turn. LAN is the way to go for playing Civ, if you have the resources to do so. If not than SP is the best. So Civ III better have SP and Multiplayer with LAN because those are my two favorite ways to play.
However, it is difficult to believe that 2 times 2 does not equal 4; does that make it true? On the other hand, is it really so difficult simply to accept everything that one has been brought up on and that has gradually struck deep roots – what is considered truth in the circle of moreover, really comforts and elevates man? Is that more difficult than to strike new paths, fighting the habitual, experiencing the insecurity of independence and the frequent wavering of one’s feelings and even one’s conscience, proceeding often without any consolation, but ever with the eternal goal of the true, the beautiful, and the good? - F.N.

                Simulplay?

Does anyone know if there is going to be simultaneous single and/or multi play?

I'm a long-ime Civ (and SMAC) player who never MPed, but I think I'm going to start with CivIII, since I won't have to buy an add-on to do so, and more importantly because of the increased importance of commodities. Also (and I'm not sure if it was the same in MP as in SP) the diplomacy options didn't make interactions between civs very interesting, or important in CivII, which will be very different given the possible complexity of treaties in CivIII. Needless to say I voted for both.

Firaxis has announced a few months back that there will be these multiplayer options:

                    - Lan
                    - Internet
                    - PBEM
                    - Hotseat

Personally my favourite options are hotseat and internet, and if Firaxis actually reconsiders these options i might think twice about buying the game.

Mp is critical for a lot of games now. FPS and RTS games are pretty boring solo, though they are useful for practice. But realistically, I'm probably still going to play a game like Civ3 solo. It's just not the kind of game you can pop in and out of.

I rarely play multi-player. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be availiable in some form at a later time. I realise many other people play multi-player almost exclusively. And once one has mastered the AI, you can then move onto the Human challenge.

I will not buy the game unless there is a mp option. I don't care how rich the diplomatic system is or how challenging the AI will be; it comes down to within a couple months I will figure out how to beat the game at all levels and by all types of endgames.

I do like the option for a game designed as mp from scratch. But until there is a computer with net access in a good percentage of homes it will not be.

Won't there be a modem to modem option? Why doesn't that get put into most games anymore? Some of us get free local calls so why should I have to pay my ISP to play MP against my friend?

With some tweaking I'm sure you may get that look as a LAN to the game , at least if you are using Windows.

In light of recent news that multi-player may not be included in the first release of Civ3, I thought it might be time to bump this poll up to the top again.
