  • One-click or single button queue?

Is there anything to allow queue additions without holding shift?

I just got Civ & Conquest, and it's good cause it's turn based, but often i'm holding my baby daughter in one arm, and so have problems adding stuff to a queue.

I've put on the advanced buttons preferences, so think i've got most areas usable with just the mouse, but this last is still there.

I don't know of any other options for using queue other than using SHIFT key. I can understand your situation as I was doing exactly the same thing holding my baby daughter and playing civ.

What I did do, was move my mouse near the SHIFT key and use my pinky while clicking...it helps to have a cordless mouse. Can be tough to select the right build order.

    Congratulations!

Train your daughters to play Civ at a very early stage. It requires some investment now in lost Civ-time, but later it will pay off a great deal and you can multiplay future versions with them.

That won't work unless they sell a "Barbie Mod"; "PowerPuff Mod" or perhaps a "Teen Titan Mod.

When my daughter sees me playing, she always says, "I want the girls to win" (England, Byzantium, Spain, etc). Or she likes one color over another...

Hihihi, I can imagine that! Could lead to some interesting playing though.

Maybe you can ask some of the artists here to make that mods!

Have you tried the Caps Lock key?

Caps lock wont have an effect im afraid.

As for daughters deciding that pretty colours should win the game, just imagine if Ronald Reagan had decided he didnt like all the red on the world map

I have a similar problem occasionally with a cat. The kids are too old to be held in the arms anymore. I had an unsharpened pencil and used the eraser end to reach out and press the shift key while not letting go of my all-too-comfortable cargo. After a while of that, the cat lost. It was either in the lap or be somewhere else. We're still working on the compromise.

If you really really need to do it all one-handed, you will need a small weight. I have a machined metal rectangular block that was part of something else and just happens to fit the shift keys. First you click to start the build queue dialogue, then you place the weight on the shift key, then you start adding things to the queue. If you don't have a piece of scrap metal handy, you might try a fishing weight from the sports section of any cheap department store.

It's slightly less cumbersome than the pencil trick, but either way, I lost my patience and the cat lost out. With a baby daughter involved, you might decide differently. Just don't dump the daughter unceremoniously on the floor like I do with the cat.
                If you aren't confused,
                You don't understand.

Another thing that might help is making a "standard" queue, that contains your usual improvements/units that you like to build and their order. After done, press Shift+Q and that queue is saved, so you will have just to press Q the next time you want to build your usual things.

TeediuS , many versions of windows got 'accessibility options', I believe 'sticky keys' is what you are looking for.

Glad you brought the subject up btw, I'm about to be a father(3 months from now) and need to do some planning

thanks for the replies, well the useful ones at least

weight idea was good, but even better I hadnt even thought of using the accesibility keys. I also didn't know about the standard queue option thing either, so that'll come in handy even when shes in her cot.

thanks, and good luck bongo, it's hard work, but worth ever second
