  • Custom Music?

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to add custom music to Civ3/C3C? I don't want to replace any music, just add some.

I don't suppose it would be as simple as adding an mp3 or wav file into one of the sound dirs?

I don't know, but I'd suggest looking how the music files are placed for the Conquest with custom music.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

You can add some music and see (or replace the old files) but up until now the game hasn't accepted this sort of monkeying around with the files. I dont know if this holds true with conquests.

I believe the conquests themselves employ some form of list...?
You'd have to investigate further, though...

Am not even sure where the music is, but if you'll find the file(s) you might be able to find the codec/ format with Gspot (right?) and then you can try to compile some other music in the same format or add to the file (if one) with some music editing program.

All of the versions of Civ3 use mp3's placed in a certain directory. You could insert custom music rather easily by simply placing another mp3 there and renaming the file to one Civ3 uses.

Thanks guys, but I know how to replace music. I was hoping there was a way to add music, not replace existing music.

Cerbykins, I don't suppose you have any further info?

Tried simply adding more mp3s to the relevant folders? Might work.

                  Can it work with Shakira?

You could try adding your mp3 file to the original music file using a sound/mp3 editing utility . Join your music and the Civ3 mp3s , so to speak .

Thinking outside the box: Turn off music in-game, fire up your favourite mp3 application, load the CivIII music files along with whatever you wanted to add, and hit play.

Don't even use sound. It can get awfully repetitive.

I'd like to be able to turn off bombard sound effects, but keep everything else. Hearing 40+ Arty fire in a row is the definition of repetitive.

And not hearing any sound whatsoever is the definition of dull. The music I can live without though, it always bemuses me watching stacks of units scrapping away with a merry tune in the background.

Last Conformist, that's a good idea, however, I like keeping the music inline with the eras, as I do like most of the music. As for the Artillery fire, you could just create a blank audio file and replace the arty sound in the units dir. I ended up altering several of the audio files to reduce the volume on several effects as they just seemed inordinately loud compared to other sound effects.

So I guess there's no known way to add music then? At least not that anyone knows about?
