  • The Most Stupidest Thing AI Ever Done

Just to share : Emperor, PTW 1.27f, huge, 31 Civs, Germany (1st emperor in PTW)
Just took a 9 pop. babylon city (Original 12 size, it had uranium and Iron). I place
1 MA Army (it consists of 4 Elite MAs)
    1 Ver MI
    5 Injured Elite/Vet MA
babylon wanted to take it back, and he used
    1 SINGLE REG CAVALRY
If a reg Cav could kill My "Full Healty-Loaded-Elite-MAs" Army, I promised never wanted to play PTW again (back to Civ-2). Luckily, the RNG was not so stupid after all
Next to that city, was my city guarded with only 1 vet MI, and 1 Elite MA. Something must be wrong!!!
it is something to do with PTW??? or with Emperor ???

Now, this time is a smart move by AI.
Same game as above. Korea (my MPP but he was North of Babylon, and I was at South of Babylon) made peace with babylon (which made me mad ). To trigger MPP, I sent a capture worker to the border of babylon. Next to him was a vet japan's infantry (in my land). Instead of capturing my free worker, a babylon cavalry attacked the Japan's infantry. The babylon cav lost, and it didnt trigger my MPP with korea (I didnt know before) . Oh well, so I gave korea a lux in exchange of war with babylon.

I have not see the code, of course, but it could be that the logic required for the second event is straight forward. That is, no need to track a number of variables. Just make a check for MPP's before attacking anyone and consider that.

The former is likely a case of not enough depth in the logic and coming down to flip of the coin (rng) to decide the action.

Granted, it would seem that one action was better than the other, but the logic is compound and complex.

The AI is often way more stupid than this. Anyone noticed how your tiny, angry 2 town neighbour will always declare war on your 50+ cities and nuclear arsenal??

This is not so stupid, when you consider it has nothing to lose.

It could result in annihilation. Which by my maths is worse than just being a minnow.

In the real world, yes, but not in a game where the ultimate goal is domination.

Losing is annihilation for the game. It ends the civs is gone. Hence, nothing to lose.

Did u fight against several AIs at once at that time? Most likely what he did was to increase your WW. IMO, its a smart move, especially if the AI was far away from your location.

@ellias : That what I called bad luck. Reading some thread, I read a spearman may kill a MA when been attacked (probably on the hill etc). But I never read a cav could kill Full-Elite-MA-Army.

@vmax1 : yes, probably the rng, BTW if he could capture my worker, I could get it back the next turn

Its happened in major wars or after long periods of peace (although predominantly during major wars, the WW is a good point)

VXMA1, I also see your point but I think that argument at base level probably comes down to opinions about how realistic the game should remain.

Maybe so and I am in the I do not need a lot of realism group.
