I don’t currently own a copy of Civ 3, but I am borrowing it from a friend to see if I want to purchase it myself. I saw C3C being advertised, and wondered if it was that much better than Civ 3. That said, will C3C work on its own, or will I need to purchase Civ 3 first?

There are many interface improvement in the expansion packs. The editor in CivIII is much weaker than C3C.
Many more civs and units in C3C.
You are allowed up to 31 civs in C3C as to 16 in CivIII.
It can be found for as low at $9.99, so that is about as fair a price as you can expect.
Yes a few games do have stand alone expansion packs such Disciples II, the Warlords III and others.
Disciples for example was not cheap and did not offer all that much for the price of not requiring the original. Mind you it was worth the money to me, but just a point of fact.

Well, I went out and purchased the two games at the beginning of this past weekend. It was a long weekend, which was handy. You guys were right, the Conquerors expansion is superb. I’m just loving the conquests and the variety of play they bring. Goodbye social life.
