  • What determines the palace view popup?

You know, when the popup comes and says "Your citizens blah blah palace" so you're taken to the Palace view screen where you add new improvements to it?

And does the improvements hav ean effect on anything? Or is it just for decoration?
meet the new boss, same as the old boss

Yep, just something pretty to look at. Nothing more.

I have always wondered that myself. Sometimes I would get a palace addition literally 2 or 3 turns after the last one, then none for who knows how long.

Its fun. Mix and matching the pieces is entertaining, and a nice interlude to the game.

Culture would seem to be part of it, as you can often get upgrades in the early game when you get a Wonder. Otherwise military conquest seems to do it too...

Fun, Yep yep. I can't find a way to mix the Gothic architecture with anything else though, those dark brick are just too overpowering. And, the maya-style palace for the most part only looks good on its own.
Hello, Firaxis?: I wish there were more architectural styles.

From the way I see it the palace pop up shows when: I kill my first barbarian (I always set it to raging barbarians ), one of my city borders expands, my armed forces increases in number, or my population starts celebrating we love the whatever day. I wonder if it is civ dependent ...

culture is my guess. I started one of the scenarios in multiplayer- I may have started it the wrong way (I have no idea how to set up scenarios in multplayer). I had the option to build many palace improvements as one (this was the WW2 Pacific scenario). I'm guesing this was because of the empire being at a certain cultural level.

                    Probably different kinds of events.

                    I'm 100% sure:
                    - 1st time city attacked by barbarian and barbarian is repulsed

                    Those I'm almost 100% sure:
                    - 1st Barb camp destroyed.
                    - Gov switch to higher Gov type ever experienced. (*)
                    - 1st time you make peace.

                    Unsure:
                    - #cities > Threshold
                    - Pop. > Threshold
                    - 1st time you declare war.

(*) tell this one to modders, cause when they put a new Gov type at the end of the list, it will be seen as a 'higher' gov. type.

Presumably going from Democracy to Feudalism would give you a palace upgrade then, given that feudalism is the last on the list...

Just decoration. In fact, this has been removed in Conquests, thankfully.

Not in the epic game, just the scenarios. Play the regualr game of conquests and the palace is still there

No it's not. I've played several games epic games with Conquests, and not once has the Palace View come up.
