  • UK or US version

I want to patch my civ3.How do I recognize which Civ3 version I've got so I can choose the correct patch..i.e what's the difference between the two versions.
    Oh no.... not THAT again

Look on the box, if it's made in Ireland it's probably the UK version.
If it has all kind of silly warnings about graphic violence, it's probably the US version.
Other than that, try the readme files, or I'm sure there's a version checker ingame.
Too bad my cd's at a friend's house and I don't have the game installed.
Waiting for Conquests to arrive from play.com

The main difference I could see was the copy protection used on the CD's. I have no idea whyt it was decided to vary this between US/UK .. very odd indeed, and this whole thing about different patches for different versions is such a mess .. very poorly designed.

AFAIK the different copy protection only affects PTW. I have only ever seen one version of the original Civ3 patches. The last patch for Civ3 was 1.29.

If it is PTW then start up the game. If the copy protection is Securecom it is the US version, if Safedisk it is a UK/euro version.

          Violence warnings in CIV??
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

my remark about the violence warnings on the US version were meant to be a joke ofcourse.

PS: just received my Conquests cd from play.com, can´t wait to get home.

Well, i ordered Conquests from play.com and they sent me civ 3 the std game!
I sent it back and complained so they said they would send me a "free" copy of Conquests for all the hassle, guess what arrives tonight...... Civ 3 PTW.... can you believe it..... any way can you help me.

I've now got PTW UK Version 1.14 can someone tell me "exactly" what to do to update to the latest UK version , I understand there's been some confusion between UK and USA versions so I've no idea how to get the UK version patched up

              Any help appreciated.

There is a UK 1.21f patch on the Apolyton Civ 3 downloads.

If you go to www.infogrames.co.uk and click on downloads --> patches and choose Civ3 you will get an option which includes the UK 1.27f PTW patch. This is the last PTW patch. Simply download and run it.

I had no problems using this one.

Incidentally, if you want to still use Civ3 after installing PTW it is advisable to download the 1.29f patch for Civ3 and install that before installing PTW and its 1.27f patch. The reason is that PTW doesn't completely patch Civ3 to the 1.29f standard and this can cause problems if you then try to play Civ3.
