  • A question about trade

Ok, here I am in the modern era everybody has harbors, airports and the what nots but when I go to the diplomacy screen I still cannot trade some of my resources.

As an example: I want to Ecology form Spain so I ask her what she wants for that. She then gives me a list of things that she wants like World Map, Lump Sum and per turn and she also wants Wine. Nothing wrong, right? Well If I wanted to offer her Wine I could have not done it because I do not have the option on my screen!?!? So what I usually do, is aks a country Spain what they want for Ecology, then I delete all items except Wine and then ask her hwhat she will ofer me for that na d voila we have a deal. Now the question is why don't I have the option to start with? I play PTW version 1.21f.

    So long....

Hmm. The only thing I can think of is that she is asking for your only source of wine. To you it appears grey in the top right corner, but you can still trade it if you click on it.

But I dont remember if the AI ever asks you for your only source of something.

That sounds kinda weird. I've never experienced a civ asking you for something you couldn't offer in trade.

Post a save, or at least a screenshot. That might help people figure it out.

Very weird. Attach the save to your post if you can.

Maybe you are trading the wine with someone else, and Spain actually made you to break a treaty? Now that would be weird More likely it should be what Snotty says.
Did you check your active trades, before speaking with Spain? Also the F2 screen should show you if the trade is possible (bottom right of the screen: "Can trade with ..." ).

Edit: btw, I'd be advisible to upgrade to 1.27. There aren't too many differences, but who knows?

Ok, here is the file. It's version PTW 1.21f and I play the Chinese. If you go to the diplomacy screen it's not only with the Spanish but with some of the civilizations too. There is no trade embargo against anybody so if anybody can give me a tip as to what's wrong, I'll appreciate it.

Also, in this turn (after I saved the game) I asked the English to withdraw their forces from my valuable land and THEY declared war on me. Fair enough. Now, I had a mutual protection pact with the Persians and the Spanish but these two also had a MPP with the english too and in the next turn they sided with the english and declared war on me?!?! What gives? Shouldn't they side with me since the English were the aggressors? How does MPP work when it comes to such a situation?

            So long...

PS: Darn the file is too big and zipping won't help because it's still over 600k.

Umm, it's save file that is being talked about, they're usually over 1 meg of size. Screenshot would be very small, under 100k (unless it's .bmp ). However you could try spanning the zip file in smaller parts with winzip, and posting them then.

Ah. In which case perhaps try saving the game rather than sending the auto save. I hear auto save doesnt compress the save file.

There is an upload funcion here that can handle large files. I have not used it but I have seen posted saves there.

for the MPP to trigger in your favor and have Persians and Spanish declare war on the English, you must leave at least 1 surviving English unit inside your borders. the MPP will be triggered the next turn and the above 2 civs will go to war with the English.

And remember, you can't have a single unit inside English's cultural borders, even if the unit did not attack anything.

However, I'm not sure when the MPP triggers, if it triggers during Persian and Spain's turns.. and if Lizzie had her turn first, she may be able to sign an alliance against you. Though I THINK it triggers at the beginning of the next turn, before everyone moves.. can anyone confirm?

Ok, I uploaded the file but where the heck can I find it? Does anybody know?

                        @PeaSoup

Many thanks, it just worked out fine after I reloaded and followed your suggestions.

You can find it easily from main upload page, just go to View Files and check the uploaded file's URL. Upload dir is http://apolyton.net/upload/files/ and each user's files are in their own subdirectory. Files are in it, but access is restricted so you can only get to them by View Files option and linking the file to Apolyton thread.

Use the "upload" at the top (as you did to upload the file to Poly), then click on "view files." Link onto your uploaded file.
