is there anyway to play in a window instead of full screen? used to love civ2 for that ability amongst other reasons

Civ 3 uses DirectX, and a lot of graphical modes that are only available via full-screen rendering. And windowed mode isn't anything that can be implemented in a patch, it would take a lot of time and effort to implement it.
Civ 3, though, is completely multitasking friendly, which is good enough for me...Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

Well, alt+tab or the windows key will work as others have mentioned.
However, if you REALLY want to play civ3 in a window....There are some tools that allows you to run multiple OS at the same time using virtual machines( vmware is one of them)....So...It's possible but not worth the effort. Get another computer.Don't eat the yellow snow.
