  • Future Techs

What are they for? At the end of one game, I think I got about three of them. Didn't seem to confer any advantage. Civilopedia and manual both mute on subject. Does anyone know?

I think is just for give you more civ point at the end of a game!!! Don't give you any improvment or unit.

it doesnt even give you one whole point though!

Correct. You just get more points. Nothing else.

If you are the kind of guy who feels involved with his games, you also have the satisfaction to feel more advanced than your opponents.
Otherwise, there is no reason to put any budget in science once you've reached the final tech.

            Yeah, they suck.

I would prefer them to be something like in the MoO's where they increase efficiency in one area. say, after all the techs have been researched, pick from one of 5 or so areas, each costing a bundle of science and producing a small empire wide effect. Such as: agriculture 1 would give say one extra wheat on the city square or something.

That way there would be some tangible benefit.

Suppose that can be edited or modded in.

i'd like to see a slight increase in attacks/defense for different units.

                doubtful that'll ever happen though...

I've read somewhere that the scenarios in Conquests were made with the scenario editor that'll be shipped. In the Shogun scenario, the Daimyo unit gets stronger as you progress in the tech tree.

Hopefully you'll be able to code such an "event" that when a future tech is discovered, all your units get stronger.

I think it's just a waste not to have real futuristic techs (you can always push the trip to AC back another 200 years, which is realistic). Stuff like Ion engines and quantum computers and stuff which is being written about right now in Scietific american. SMAC did it realistically and there is no need to go to the barbaricly unsophisticated future military vehicles that CTP had.

oooh... SMAC... I like the future techs and the quotes...
Does anyone know how much points you actually get from future tech? in terms of getting a high score is getting more tech or more money effective?
