1.27 and 1.21 compatibility

I have just played a PBEM sent to me in version 1.27 with version 1.21 installed in my machine...

... and it worked perfectly

I guess it's safe to say both versions are compatible at least regarding PBEMs. Has anybody tried this to confirm?
