Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
Thanks for that, looks promising. When I click the zip file and also the link further into the thread, i get "No attachment specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the webmaster", could this be because the thread is so old.
Thanks anyway at least it looks like there is a way.
To play at a non-standard resolution, at least on a PC, add a line "keepres=1" to your Civilization3.ini file. (The file is located in the directory where you installed Civ 3. You can edit it using Notepad or Wordpad.) Adding that line causes Civ 3 to play at the resolution you've been running your monitor at instead of changing to its default resolution. I tried switching to 800x600 resolution and it seemed to work fine (aside from only being able to see a tiny bit of the map at a time; I'm used to 1600x1200). I also tried hitting the "Z" key to zoom out, and I could see a pretty fair-sized area but of course everything was a lot smaller.
If you are playing PtW, I'd assume you need to make the change in the ptw.ini

Spiffor, that method won't work fine at all. Yes, it will show the game at 800x600, but you won't be able to use half the screens - diplomacy buttons are outside the screen visible area, etc.

I don't know about there, but here you can get a monitor for less than $50 or a new video card for even less. So if either of those is the problem, that may be theway to go. Get a friend to hook up thier monitor to test it.
Well, here at least, we don't think in those terms. If it's possible to get it to work with the old monitor, do so. If not, get a new one. Learn to get the most out of old stuff .

Thanks to everone who assisted in solving the problem. Thanks Solver for forwarding the zip file. Works great now.
On the monitor issue, I spend time in two different cities with a nice PC in one and an old Celeron (the problem one) in the other, i'm not loaded with cash so would rather avoid spending money on another monitor, especially as apart from PTW all I would do is use Office products and surf on the Celeron.
