irrigated grassland?

hi all I am a civ3 fan from Turkey and i have a little trouble and if u can help i'll be glad... the problem is when i irrigate a grassland it still produces 2 food instead of 3. how can i solve this problem? irrigated grasslands should produce 3 food i suppose ) thx for help...

I downloaded the latest patch but I still have problem...

The problem is if you are still in the despotism government it caps food production at 2 unless you have a bonus tile (cattle, etc.). Research another government style (republic or monarchy to start) and start your anarchy. When you come out of anarchy pick the other government style and all your irrigated grasslands will be producing three food.

What you can do is mine the grassland and irrigate the plains, that way you have less waste and more production in despotism. Varies dependent on location of course. Try it once for yourself to see if you like it, it might make a big differnece to you. I was quite wed to irrigation when I started playing (habit from Civ2) but now shields are much more important to me than an extra citizen-entertainer at the end o fhte game.

Yeah I was the same way. Too ingrained I guess. It took me a while (and reading strategy threads on 'Poly) to break my habit. Now I try to cap my cities for growth to avoid pollution and "specialist waste".

BTW, forgot to mention it but despotism caps shield production at two as well so mined hills are only as good as forests until you get to a better government.

You dont need maximum food output untill Hospitals come along, shields are far more important.
