Did Firaxis do their research? Zimbabwe is the Zulu capital in the game. It was a great ancient city in Africa. But the real capital of the Zulu was Ulundi. The civilization is the Zulu, not Africa. I'm not sure about some of the cities, I wouldn't be surprised if they were cities of other tribes. There are some Zulu cities that did exist that I know of but they aren't in the list of cities.

What is with the Zulu capital?
"The first man who, having fenced off a plot of land, thought of saying, 'This is mine' and found people simple enough to believe him was the real founder of civil society. How many crimes, wars, murders, how many miseries and horrors might the human race had been spared by the one who, upon pulling up the stakes or filling in the ditch, had shouted to his fellow men: 'Beware of listening to this imposter; you are lost if you forget the fruits of the earth belong to all and that the earth belongs to no one." - Jean-Jacques RousseauTags: None

It's the same way with the Iroquois. Their leaders are various Native American leaders, none of them actually Iroquois. Maybe they should've made a civ that was the Native Americans and the cities would be different tribes."The first man who, having fenced off a plot of land, thought of saying, 'This is mine' and found people simple enough to believe him was the real founder of civil society. How many crimes, wars, murders, how many miseries and horrors might the human race had been spared by the one who, upon pulling up the stakes or filling in the ditch, had shouted to his fellow men: 'Beware of listening to this imposter; you are lost if you forget the fruits of the earth belong to all and that the earth belongs to no one." - Jean-Jacques Rousseau

The whole African thing is flawed in Civilization. First of all they picked the Zulu over Mali (I think it was the Mali, I'm not that knowledgeable on African history) to represent African civilization. From what I know the Mali had a relatively large empire, cities, and trade networks across the known world. From what I know about the Zulu, thier main claim to fame was being slaughtered by the British. But like I said, I don't know too much about African history, so I could be completely wrong.
Also, grouping them with the Mid-East culture group is kinda weird, but I guess since there are no other African civs in the game, its the best they can do. Actualy, in the last 3 games I played, all three involved the Zulus starting massive wars, and 2 of them were largely against Mid-East civs (civs within the same culture are supposed to be more tolerant of each other), so I guess it all evens out.

The reason they picked the Zulu is because they fought against the British (the other African civs didn't really make much of a fight worth noting), and they fought well. They did get whooped at the stand by the British at the outpost at Rorke's Drift, but considering the superiority of the British weapons it's not too big a victory. Besides that, the British were beaten badly at several other battles. In fact, British settlers at Transvaal and Natal panicked and built up their defenses. The whole affair was an embarassment to the British army. The next year the Zulu begged for a peace treaty (which they'd been doing from the start) because they weren't able to harvest their crops and the British attacked and defeated them."The first man who, having fenced off a plot of land, thought of saying, 'This is mine' and found people simple enough to believe him was the real founder of civil society. were the Zulu in southern Africa?
Also, one could make an argument (albeit a not very good one) that the Mongol capital should be in China (forgot which city) when Ogedei (Genghis's son) moved it there after he took over. Then, however, you would have to have Mongol cities simultaneously with Chinese cities, and then we go into Persia and Russia, etc. so i have no idea why i made that argumentI use Posturepedic mattresses for a lifetime of temporary relief.

Yes, they were in southern Africa.
And, you argument doesn't apply to the Zulu though. Ulundi was always their capital and it wasn't a conquered city."The first man who, having fenced off a plot of land, thought of saying, 'This is mine' and found people simple enough to believe him was the real founder of civil society. Yes, but that only changes the lists for yourself. Meanwhile, it is very irritating that many young (and older) people are now learning wrong things about ao the Zulu and the Iroquois because Firaxis didn't do their homework.A horse! A horse! Mingapulco for a horse! Someone must give chase to Brave Sir Robin and get those missing flags ...

Their choice for an African civ was a bit odd. The Zulu indeed put up quite a fight against the British, but there are numerous other powerful empires worthy of being in CivIII such as the Nubians, who were so powerful that they went as far as conquering all of Egypt and set up their own dynasty, or the Mali Empire, who built an empire that covered much of northwestern Africa."When we begin to regulate, there is naming,
but when there has been naming
we should also know when to stop.
Only by knowing when to stop can we avoid danger." - Lao-zi, the "Dao-de-jing"
