  • Barbarians got brains????

Hey - I just bought PTW and am playing my first game with it (yeah, well, I live in a shell I guess 'cause I didn't even know it existed until two days ago!) and I think the Barbs are smarter! They hover outside my settlements so I can't use workers without killing them first. Or is this just my crazy imagination???
If pigs could fly we'd all have to wear helmets.

No. The changes to the barbarian AI was well documented by the Firaxis team when PTW first came out.

Yes, the first game I played of PtW was a shock--the Barbs were actually a threat for once! They only attack units that they feel they can beat and they also pursue the tactic you mentioned above. However, the greatest thing I've seen them do was when all the AIs were ganging up on me in the Ancient Ages (yeah, these guys hated my guts already!) and just when I thought I could take them on, the Barbarians to my south and west started destroying my South. The game was quickly history.

Yes they are smarter. They will not just walk up to a fortified city and toss themself on your spears.
They will pillage and go around fatal encounters.
I am not saying that they are smart, only not brain dead as they had been.

I can't believe they don't take control of cities anymore.. Was it a bug fix or just something that pissed people off? I really enjoyed that fact.. Now I have to set barbs to raging every game just for a little fun.

Barbs never could take cities in Civ3--they could just ransack them and leave you're thinking of civ2 maybe?

CTP is an XP of CIV 2 not CIV 3.

Sometimes i wish they'd just take the damn city rather than ransack it, especially when i'm doing the 'research at 10% until it makes a difference' and all my money seems to be stacked in an outside city i've just built, oh well, guess i shud defend better *shrugs*

If you have a Spear or Pike in a city, Barbs shouldn't be a concern at all. Especially a Tank Killer Spear

Seriously though, any defensive unit in a city will stop Barbarians less than an uprising all directed toward that one city. (I don't think the savages are that smart yet ) Especially if you have a Walls or it's on a Hill or River.

That is sort of true. At Chief you get a bonus against barbs of something like 800. As you move up levels it goes down. IIRC it is 100 at Monarch, but the point is beating barbs is harder as you move up levels.

No it isn't. CTP (Call to Power) is a completely different game, only based on Civilization.

It's also by a completely different PUBLISHER (Craptivision). They also got sued over the "Civ:" part of the title.
