Call me suspicious, but there's no indication of a privacy policy. I definitely do not want my data to be sold for marketing purposes. I already get too much spam.

I have beta tested for this company and their previous game ( Emperor ) last year and you need not to worry for your data sold for marketing purposes etc, but should you not sign in, even better for us ( less competition)

... and since I mentioned it, those chosen should get ready for serious hard work. Break Away was not given this project by Firaxis because of their lazyness in their procedures.

Thunderfall posted this over at CivFanatics:

More Civ3: Conquest Beta Test Info
posted by Thunderfall at 3:56 PM

We received more info about the Civ3: Conquest beta test from Firaxis today:

Firaxis will be accepting several hundred players as part of our Civ Conquest closed beta program in June. Interested players must register between now and May 27th to be considered for the team. Participants who qualify must agree to the terms of the beta test program, including a non-disclosure agreement.

That's LOTS of beta testers!!! If you still haven't applied yet, what are you waiting for? There is a good chance that you might get in.

And here is a little Q&A about Firaxis's role in the development of the new expansion:

CivFanatics: Today BreakAway Games announced they are accepting beta test applications for the Civ3: Conquest expansion. Does this mean BreakAway Games is doing the expansion, not Firaxis?

Firaxis: We're working with Breakaway to develop Civ III:Conquests. We've worked with them successfully in the past on other games and some of the folks at Breakaway are former Micropose members who have worked on many of Sid's classic games, including Civilization. Partnering with them in the development of this expansion allows us to ramp up the development team so that we have sufficient manpower to make a top notch expansion for Civ III.

Thanks to Firaxis's Kelley Gilmore for the clarification!

The beta program will also be advertised on the Spring Civ newsletter* which is going out later this week. I don't envy the people charged with looking through the applications to pick candidates. (No use PM'ing me; I'm not involved in that process.) And for those who are asking: yes, you will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

                  Good luck to all!

It looks like they are going for a lot of play testers.

How does Firaxis (or whoever) select the betatesters? Is it random? Do you get a quiz or something?

Breakaway Games will be choosing the beta testers. As to selling privacy information, they need the information on your computer to help choose testers. The other information would be to ship your C3C CD if you are chosen. It is also used to come up with a diverse play group. Most companies prefer a mix of genders, ages, regional locations, etc.

One way that I monitor where I get Spam and regular postal junk mail is by adding a code in my address, and if I am suspicious, then I would also add a number after my name (Sr, Jr, I, II, etc). This way if I get email/postal junk mail with that code, then I know where it was sold.

                        From the sign up sheet:

Your information will be used only by BreakAway Games.
I haven't received any spam after signing up.

Don't listen to them, if you sign up you get a live-in midget who repeats ads in a high pitched voice 24/7. You don't want to sign up for this beta.
