  • What do you will happen with the city naming in the new xp?

of coz we don't know wht the other 6 civs are, but thinking about Sumer, I really don't know wht's gonna happen, especially when the Persians and the Babylonians are already in the game from the same region from different time periods... cities like Ur, Uruk, Lagash was around for a long long while, spanning from the Summerians and Babylonians to Assyrians and Persians if i'm not mistaken... n e guesses??

my guess is that it might b the case of New York for England and the US... whoever reaches it first... it'd b quite interesting to observe...

It may be that since this XP will be targeted for scenario play, the scenarios will have custom city lists.

im guessing that they will have to focus on less populated cities almost villages if you will and evenly distribute the larger cities to the civ who had the biggest impact on it

An alternate possibility: same city, different name. E.g. : Wien/Vienna, or Byzantium/Constantinople/Istanbul. Plenty of examples, really, but I don't know much about the Sumerians.

Going to be a bunch of cities with the same name. Wonder how they're going to manage having the Babylonians and the Sumerians at the same time on the same map?

Yes, Rome has Byzantium and Ottomans have Istanbul. same city. Rome also has Jerusalem, so that'll will be another issue if the Hebrews are a civilization. I'm not sure on this, but I know Germany has Koenigsberg, and Russia may have Kaliningrad (same city).

IIRC, the Babylonian empire was just Babylon plus all the other cities thay snached up in the region. With Sumer being in the game, the Babylonians really will be reduced to names of lots of minor villages!

I wouldnt mind seeing the actual city names, not the English versions. Otherwise, first come, first named.

yes, Men-nefer will always be Men-nefer. i am frankly apaulled that the an Egyptian capital shares the name with the capital of country music.

                      Good link Louis.

It's interesting to see there are quite a few cities that don't belong to the Babylonian city list here. However, there aren't enough to make a complete city list that will avoid too many redundancies, à la New Adab.

Did you find other sources by any chance ?

How do you get 'Nashville' out of 'Men-nefer' (I am embarassed by the fact that I knew that but I did drive through Nashville once ...)

Besides, Memphis has a big glass pyramid - that's kind of Egyptian right?

I quite often take the time to rename my cities anyway. Either after terrain features in the current game or parodic names from the current tribe I'm playing: Gold Fish, Deer Lake, Crappy Mountains... or Mugabeville (Zulu), Junk Food (Americans) etc...

crap, was it nashville that was the music capital of the world? screw kentucky, drove through there and never wanna go back.

fine, i'm ashamed that the once administrative center of Egypt shares its name with the administrative center of kentucky. (now if i'm wrong again, i've really made an ass out of myself).

                            "Mugabeville"

                            haha, nice.
