  • Just got PtW, already disapointed

Flipping through the manual it says all the new units are Civ Specific, except for 2 of them. That suck, because I was thinking there would be 10 new units for everyone not just Civ Specific, already I am being mislead.

Lets just hope things will get better once the game is installed.

(I can't believe I'm doing this) You know you can always mod in more units.

I believe things will be much better... some new improvements and a wonder (though pretty powerful) make the difference. And there's lots of better things.

If I may ask, how did you get the idea there would be 10 units for every civ ?

i checked the box, it doesnt say anything like that. maybe he read somewhere like "10 new units" which was referring to both the couple new units and 8 new unique units (for the 8 new civs). thats my guess

I thought they would advertise 36 new units then : 2 new general units + 8 civ specific units + the civ-specific kings + the generic "king" and "princess" units.

Really, for about 3 months before the shipping of PtW, I have never been led to think there would be more than 2 extra generic units and the few extra improvements/wonder.

You also get a bunch of editor things (like the removal of a TON of hardcodes, the ability to have 31 or 32 new civs, stuff like that)

Exactly, but I installed it and download Marla's Map and I am very impressed in her work. I also checked out the editor and I am more impressed with this editor than the orignal. This is what Civ 3 should have been the first time, so I am paying $100 for this game now, but hopefully I will enjoy it more now. I see I can add units to the game and hope its easy to do.

It is better so far, I like the added addtions of capture the kings and what not, and will try it after my first game.

don't use this feature in SP games, the AI is not optimalized for it and you're in for a very dissapointing waste of time. The new victory conditions are to be used in MP only!

Edit: I really should remember that : is and is NOT are NOT the same thing

I purchased PTW last week for $20 and so far I am satisfied. I am so glad that I didn't get the game when it first came out because for $30 it just isn't worth it IMO. I'm not a modder or editor so these features while nice were not the main reason why I bought PTW. All in all it's a good expansion if you only plan to play single player or hotseat and at $20 you can't go wrong.

I don't play multiplayer, so why could't I use it? If the AI is too strong then that is a good thing unless you mean it cheats. The hint book wich I picked up for $12.00 canadian says the Ai dosn't cheat except it knows the whole location of the map and where everything is loacated (ie resources).
